Coronavirus - Dig In, It's going to be a while yet

Shur I wouldnt have been in the house to be caught would I?

So a government can introduce what they like if it doesnt affect the majority at the time of introduction?

@ironmoth

reports of mortality rates for Italy, France and Portugal and a bit on the UK too, with 5 years data

Seems covid 19 deaths have been under reported.

In a time of emergency yes

Have we declared an emergency?

Yeah you’re right it was rushed through. We are doing fine without this like you said. What gets me is that for years we were told there couldn’t be legislation for things like huge severance packages for directors of banks who ran the country into the ground and teed us up for years of austerity that culminated in consequences for the old and infirm. They have no problem introducing legislation emergency or otherwise when it suits them.

I’ve 2 grandparents up there. A lovely spot to be buried, if that can be said.

I don’t think this is unconstitutional lads, the State has a lot of leeway to restrict “rights”.

The Emergency Health Act passed in the Dail last week, yes

The same with rents etc. - We were told it was unconstitutional …

why do you think governments have taken these measures, knowing the consequences, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this. If you wouldn’t mind.

Also, did you not read the article? It directly counters the post you’ve just responded with.

All he had to say was he had a few briars to cut.

You see the issue there would be that it could be viewed as disproportionate as it would attack individuals. This is for the common good without question.

Yes. @Rocko made a speech about being nice to each other and to charge our phones and @Bandage was in charge of stocking up on cream eggs.

Terrible crisis management that. Putting the lad with the sweetest tooth in charge of confectioneries.

Christ! what about Simon’s Easter Bunny Tweet? Could that be a lie too?

300-400 people die from suicide every year and you’ve just tried to deny mental health is an issue. That’s in a normal year. You’ve no idea the effects of lock down will have on people long term but you are selfish and as long as you are safe in your box you are happy out and Think we should all fall in. Everyone is different and everybody has different coping skills. You are trying to deny this. The virus is here to stay and we will have to learn to adjust and live with it. Mental health is incredibly important and anybody that denies this should be ashamed of themselves.

He’d cut the head off a briar alright.

We havent declared an emergency tho ---- and we are discussing the legitimacy of forcing through that act now, which is a healthy discussion really - the lower number of deaths in Ireland from covid and the acknowledgment of gov that 99% of people are complying with measures add to the strangeness of signing it off.

No one is questioning the measure in itself really, we know we have to stay locked down … Whether it affects you is not really relevant. We’ve never introduced anything like this in our history so it’s fairly seismic in that regard and it was rushed through both houses of parliament and teed up with a prepared set of questions by Miriam O’Callaghan on Prime Time. It’s all healthy discourse. and a tiny bit of Leo bashing thrown in to keep standards up.
