Responding to a fear over a ânarrativeâ does not make you a friend of facts.
In actual fact, the upshot of this pandemic will likely be a far more coordinated domestic and global response to these things. Forget about Trump, thatâs short sightedness, look at the reaction of other Asian countries to this pandemic. They were on the ball. Individuals and the countries engaged in coordinated activities. The WHO will have questions to answer over this. This sort of thing, and being overly sensitive to China wanting their feelings protected, wonât fly much longer;
By the way, nobody knew outside of China and Taiwan this was a serious danger in early January. Why the fuck would the WHO still be saying it couldnât be transmitted human to human in mid January, unless they are total liars? They said it because they believed the CCP liars.
As far as the outside world, the firsts steps were taken at the end of January by Asian countries, the US was the first western country to impose travel restrictions February 3rd. Unless the west took the same actions as Taiwan and Singapore, this was always going to play out the way it played out up to now.
And where did I say Trump didnât deserve criticism?
I have said over and over how he was a shambles over this.
Funny that your language immediately becomes oh so assertive and venomous when you get to go on the attack over him. You know itâs perfectly possible to say the WHO have some explaining to do over this global pandemic and for US citizens and residents (and hint, youâre not one) to criticise his domestic response. You trying to âhold the narrativeâ on an Irish forum is gas.
Lets all just remember though in your attempted revisionism over this, that you were the most Trump of all in your first couple of responses.
Australia have got on top of their testing (think theyâre world leaders) but surely climate has played some role there. The links with China youâd have thought would have brought a greater amount of the virus to Australia earlier.
Yeah with approx 25% of the population.
Cities like Sydney and Melbourne must be doing particularly well.
I cant fathom how from places like Redfern/Waterloo all the way west are adhering to social distancing etc.
Iâve been very rational up to now. Sure they havenât been perfect, but theyâve been a damn sight better than the US.
The bottom line is the the US right-wing is so completely filled wwith hubris and denial that they canât accept a shred of blame for something which they are squarely to blame for - the complete and utter mismanagement, or dismanagement, of the crisis.
Their entire worldview has come crashing down around them in flames and thatâs even before you consider the likelihood that Trump doesnât see this as a crisis at all, but an opportunity, and has no real interest in saving lives at all.
Thatâs pretty much the only conclusion one can come to from watching what he has done over the last two months and heâs on record as saying he would welcome society âburning downâ and âgoing to hellâ.
A quarter of supporters said theyâd welcome a catastrophic event such as a pandemic, FFS sake.
I love your optimism. All countries might well be prepared for the next pandemic, no doubt many thought they were all set for this one just look next door. The likelihood remains however that whatever politics rules the roost next time will fuck it up just as much as those in positions of power did this time and probably get a jump in approval ratings while theyâre at it.
Itâs still fairly warm in most of Australia. If you look at where the outbreaks are worst, itâs a lot colder, New York currently, Italy and Spain in Feb/March, the UK. We have similar temps to Australia here in CA at present, relatively low numbers. Africa is largely untouched as are the warmer areas of Asia. Correlation, like BCG vaccines and quinine usage, but it would give you hope as temperatures increase in the northern hemisphere it should start to abate, as most respiratory viruses do.
Yet there are those that say we need more state control. I am in agreement with you that governments have failed us, and indeed politics in general. We have to find a better way of holding them accountable, an election every 4 or 5 years doesnât cut it, it just replaces one set of useless cunts with another.
