Coronavirus - Dig In, It's going to be a while yet

The freedom to travel relates to a foreign country. Thats not being stopped. Freedom of movement can be constrained if necessary by law.Do people in prison have freedom to move around? Similarly itā€™ll only affect people who health care professionals consider a risk iirc

Thereā€™s a bull-thick guard out there happy to call your bluff on this

So youā€™ve no problem with the Government acting unconstitutionally?
In this incident I donā€™t either, but thatā€™s not the point.
A precedent has been set now to ignore the constitution in a time of crisis.

My confidence in Tony Holohan is dissipating rapidly. Iā€™m not sure he has it altogether.

You can scare people to comply now. You couldnā€™t make itā€¦

Its drafting, passing, signing have all been publicised. What more can they do. You could cynically opine that they waited for the day with highest death toll to introduce it

What further do you expect him to do?

Needs must. Is ordering businesses to close unconstitutional?

I know a few lads who have said to me they will not enforce this draconian shite.

The vast majority of this country are doing the right thing. Bringing this in now is bullshit.

Iā€™m sure Harris means well, but this is not the road or precedent we need to go down.

I would say closing the schools and universities would be closer to being so than businesses

What constitutional provision is being overriden?

The right to travel etc can be restricted ie your passport can be taken by a court

The issue is with those who arenā€™t and those who plan not to this weekend. Anecdotal evidence suggests these ones require a warning shot across their bows.

Youā€™d swear he was a constitutional lawyer.

Well the point is that in times of crisis, you may occasionally have to do things which could be considered unconstitutional. I donā€™t see that as dangerous, you just sometimes have to do things for the benefit of the country

A family from meath was stopped in dermot today. Reason. Came down for the spin.

I mean for fuck sake

You have a right to freedom of travel. I have a constitutional right to travel within the state.

I also have a freedom of movement within the EU which is a different thing, but never the less a legal right.

A couple of weeks ago we couldnā€™t stop the fucking Italians coming in because thereā€™s freedom of movement in the EU. So I have to be allowed to fly to Italy if I can get to an airport but I can be arrested if I walk 2k from my house?

Thereā€™s a constitutional right of freedom of assembly. Thatā€™s been shut down too, stronger than the travel, but these rights can be limited as the far more hierarchical right, the right to life and for the state to protect that, trumps it.

But god knows im not a constitutional lawyer so correct me if im wrong

Has Ireland declared a state of Emergency, and has the president signed it?

If the answer is yes, the government can do whatever they think is necessary to ensure public safety.

These people while simple, are putting us all at risk. Thatā€™s the long and short of it. I have little sympathy for them.

All bets are off.

Iā€™ll stick to the measures as I have done, and if someone wants to be a dickhead, they can take their chances.
