the Haredim ( ultra orthodox) who netanyahu needs to prop up the coalition have said they will walk if there is a lockdown for the jewish holidays that start in month or so.
problem is in israel the Heredim dont recognise the state in general and only observe the rules of the Torah so they by an large believe the virus is a punishment from god-
the arabs living in the country then dont adhere to any of the laws and as the police in general dont really set foot in sakinin ramle or lod they ignore all the advice anyway
israel is having 2k cases a days of late but very few people are dying - when they opened the schools in june it really took off but they are testing everyone
not sure how it will play out really -
Yeah it’s very interesting. So many cases but very few deaths. I assume they looked after the elderly well. Maybe climate factors too.
the army at the beginning had to go into cities like Bnei Brk and Modiin Illit that have 100% Haradim population to get them to comply -these are the fellas ( 20% of the peopulation) who dont recognise the governemnt , dont work, do military service , watch TV even - there were full scale riots
If the hardim arent throwing rocks at families going to a cinema on a saturday, and trying to shut down the country in general every weekend they will use covid as their twist on the secular population there
as ive said many times - the main social issue in israel is not jews and arabs - its secular v religous
Great to see the people of France out watching the Tour de France
Glynn et al would not allow it here
According to the Phil Hogan article in the IT today our fellow Europeans are laughing at our COVID hysteria.
Viewed from afar, Ireland seems stuck behind a “Celtic curtain” obsessing about case numbers in Britain and the United States. Much of continental Europe has understood the trade-off between allowing society to function as close to normal as possible and an increased (but manageable) level of virus cases. Here in Flanders, my daughter returned to school in May, free testing for those who want it is available and international travel is restricted (but allowed) based on the latest virus data available.
In Ireland, the Government’s unease at a health system with very limited capacity has made Irish people afraid of travel, afraid of tourists, seemingly afraid of themselves. Instead of utilising best-practice examples from around Europe, Ireland has largely ignored EU guidelines for safely restarting international travel.
This is Irish exceptionalism of the worse kind. And by allowing the parochialism of Ireland’s domestic politics to dominate its engagement in European affairs, Dublin has blundered badly. It may take us a generation in Brussels to repair this damage.
Paddy is a laughing stock on the mainland. The self appointed greatest craic merchant in the world afraid to go outside in case they get killed
55 cases 0 deaths for today
I think Nphet should show a little more caution here. Another week surely just to be careful
Surely to fuck this has been posted here:
Meanwhile the government here are still trying to push their Zero-Covid strategy. They want control…
Dont the government already have control?
The ECDC website is pretty good for the testing data if you want to see if one country has lower numbers due to a lower amount of testing.
Weekly Data > https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/situation-updates-covid-19/covid-19-data/weekly
Worldwide Case Data > https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/download-todays-data-geographic-distribution-covid-19-cases-worldwide
Reduce testing ffs sake. That will reduce cases. Simples.
Has there been any homogenisation of the data recently or are sneaky countries still omitting deaths in nursing homes and only counting deaths from Covid instead of deaths with Covid? The excess deaths charts in the Financial Times were usually the most reliable
That’s already the plan for the schools.
Even Una is fed up with it:
To participate in Covid-era versions of the very normal things people do to let off steam, commune, catch up or engage in the therapeutic and entertaining power of live art or sport or socialising, theatre, concerts, pubs and clubs, parties and family gatherings, is almost an exercise in feeling bereft. What we’re left with are anaemic versions of what once was, a sort of edging around the periphery of what was previously so easy, accessible and fulfilling, and now feels unsatisfactory, awkward or diluted. It’s easy and fair to resent this – how the enjoyable aspects of life feel taken away from us, or distant, sometimes literally behind a screen, be that perspex or digital.
Shur you’ve lads here screaming down the phone at their own elderly mother for sending a birthday card to their grandchild …
Push zero and blame the public at every opportunity for not achieving it.,
Do not speak ill of the dead please.
A few weeks ago I made a few posts trying to take the mick of people who were too worried about the virus. I told a story of getting a cheque off a client and eating the head off him for trying to infect me. I gave up when I realized that there was nothing I could make up that would be as ridiculous as that real-life story from Mike.
