Coronavirus thread - 19/10/2020 - The Day Ireland Died

It wouldn’t be very hard to believe the leak came from FF, since their parliamentary party meetings are basically live tweeted

And they’ll be available if needed. It’s highly disingenuous to say they won’t be. The relative cost of leasing beds compared to economic shutdowns is a no brained.

You’d imagine our supposed leading virus experts would have more to be doing than appearing on the radio morning, noon and night as well, but there you go.

Right from the off their eye has been off the ball. No time or concern for business or the economy but pucks of time for pressers, guest appearances, and writing books.

Leo fucking egghead into the Bonfire here.

humpty dumpty will have no problem throwing leo under the bus

A lot of these very brainy people don’t have social skills or basic wideness.

Well once it was leaked, it was leaked. So they defended their stance on Monday morning and it’s not necessarily that NPHET themselves were concerned. It’s now become whether the government knew about NPHET’s level five recommendation before the leak and, if so, why did go off on one and pretend they didn’t know about it?

How could the government know about a recommendation before NPHET met to consider the recommendation unless the NPHET recommendation was pre ordained.

The NPHET meeting ended around 3.30pm in the afternoon. Then the CMO wrote up his letter of recommendation of moving to Level 5.

At this point, the Health Minister and Dr Holohan spoke again

It wasn’t officially leaked and out there, Holohan was due to meet the Government that morning. If there was a leak and Holohan was pissed, the first thing you do is tell all the members to stfu beforehand.

Favier was on Morning Ireland “in a personal capacity” but talking about why raising it was the right decision.

Nphet are a large body and don’t have much discipline. All of their decisions were supposed to be pre vetted by the Civil Service but that didn’t happen from minute one of the Living with Covid plan.

Holohan says he spoke to Donnelly before and after the meeting on Sunday. In the second conversation post the meeting and before the formal letter was drafted/released, he said he told Donnelly the recommendation was to move to level five. So why all this…”we were shocked when the letter was leaked” business?!

I can understand shock that the recommendation was to go from 2/3 to 5, but the government were expressing shock and dismay that the recommendation came out of the blue on Sunday night and via the media. This now appears to be guff, as Donnelly was briefed throughout.

Donnelly was probably too busy jumping on his trampoline to let the cabinet know.

Donnelly was watching the Villa-Liverpool match and forgot to tell anyone. He remembered then around 10.15pm after the live game and before MOTD2, but felt it was probably a bit late to be bothering the Taoiseach and Tánaiste. You know how it’s annoying getting work calls/emails at night, and especially at the weekend.

Holohan’s line at last night’s briefing appeared to be that he thought the situation was deteriorating materially so felt it best to make direct contact with the Minister. But yes, they seem to have ignored the new chain of command that was implemented recently where it’s meant to go NPHET -> Committee Chaired by Martin Fraser -> Cabinet COVID-19 sub committee -> Cabinet. Going from 2/3 to 5 was essentially riding roughshod over the plan too alright.

You have had more theories on this than @Thomas_Brady had written on his arms during his maths paper 1 Leaving Cert
