Coronavirus thread - 19/10/2020 - The Day Ireland Died

And of those patients, it isnā€™t clear how many of them have Covid symptoms.

State media has never been as evident. bbc, rte, cnn, all furiously working away for chaos. Right in front of our faces.

We are headed for level 3. Wet pubs will ā€œremain open with additional restrictionsā€ as per gov.ie

Looking forward to that

Whole of Ireland or just Dublin?

Dublin.

Laois stands with you lads.

Just not too close.

Deeply under fair they are stopping kids sport. The gaa needs to make a stand.

Eh, what?

If you go to level 3 underage games are stopped.

I know itā€™s a fair way down the list of priorities but imagine itā€™s a Mayo* v Galway football final. 5k capacity.

Would thousands from the competing counties still descend on Dublin for the weekend and watch it in pubs around the capital?

*will lose by a point.

Iā€™d imagine games wouldnā€™t be allowed be held in Croker if they are in level 3. Iā€™d imagine thereā€™s 1000s of Mayo and Galway people already living in Dublin.

The whole thing is a mess.

But you were giving out that GAA was started at all elsewhere no?

Iā€™ve no issue with underage trainings. They are essential.

My issue is running off behind closed adult championships at huge costs to clubs.

Stoping people form exercising is very different to running off meaningless games.

Ah, very nuanced.

How are they meaningless games? The players all say the game is exactly the same and have the same will to win once theyā€™re on the field and thousands of people across the country are tuning into the games via TV, radio or streaming services. How did your junior championship go?

Not really itā€™s logical but thereā€™s so many selfish bastards in the gaa that canā€™t look beyond tomorrow itā€™s no surprise.

looks like madameā€™s communion will be postponed for the 3rd time if dublin goes into stage 3

Club gaa is about the community. The clubs are funded by communities. The communities are being locked out of these games. Not only is the Community locked out of these games but they come at a huge running cost to clubs.

It clearly wonā€™t be easy to raise money next year for any club.

All the gaa had to do was say no games until 500 people were allowed attend. They could have offset the cost of running games very easily and given the clubs a bit of boast.

It isnā€™t all about money

No it isnā€™t but it sadly costs a lot of money to run a club and invariably the adults teams cost the most. Cutting off communities from watching their clubs play was not right and the gaa should never have gone ahead with competitive games Until they allowed some sort of crowd.

The government would have bended over the 500 out door crowd limit months ago if gaa for once made a stand.

In fairness to the pubs and restaurants they made enough noise and got opened. It is beyond insane that they are opened before out door events like club gaa games though.
