You and many on here went against the general medical consensus at the time. On your part I think it was more a refusal to accept the seriousness of the situation rather than any sinister motives. OIUTF would have resulted in far higher fatalities. Luckily the arrival of a vaccine has been quick. Whatever economic repercussions are to come are as a result of the pandemic, not restrictions. No evidence to suggest any country has gained an economic advantage from having higher rates of fatalities.

Those of us who were against draconian and stupid restrictions in Ireland and elsewhere had two main stances (the option for zero Covid like NZ had gone as Ireland did not shut its borders in March 2020).

Implement infectious disease controls in hospitals and nursing homes. Half the deaths in Ireland were in nursing homes and hospitals, where people contracted the disease in those locations. In January 2021 every hospital in Ireland was riddled with Covid, in fact if you wanted to contract Covid the easiest way would be to walk around hospital corridors.
How many people do you estimate would have died in Ireland if the above measures were in place? Come up with a number and justify it. My estimate is 5,000.
Your comment on economic repercussions being due to the pandemic and not restrictions is so dumb it doesnât deserve a response.

Why canât they open pubs and restaurants for over-50s? They just hate freedom.
These Greek alphabet variants are a cod. They donât have the same effect on the public.
Now geographical variants strike a chord with the ole xenophobia. Nothing like a Mexican, saffer or Indian variant to come murder your granny to keep the public under the bed.

Yeah you may have mentioned âprotect the elderly and vulnerableâ a few times. Something the likes of Sunetra Gupta and mentallers like her advocated, knowing full well it was impossible to achieve but weâll put it out there as if it was a viable alternative to restrictions. At least she had the cop on to eventually shut up and not highlight how horribly wrong she called it.

Itâs not impossible, you start by putting infectious control measures in hospitals and nursing homes. Irish hospitals are a disgrace, they are like something from the 1950s. Youâre literally arguing that a significant number of deaths in nursing homes and hospitals could not have been prevented.
Fire out your estimated number of deaths there, or do not not have the balls to?

So protecting the vulnerable is a bad idea, or canât be done? Answer the nursing home and hospital question, could anything have been done there to reduce infections? If people like yourself were listened to Ireland should stay in lockdown forever. Covid is now endemic in every continent except Australia, and there will always be new variants to worry about.
What youâre basically saying is that the medical advisers in the UK are correct to advise against opening up, even though 80% of the UK population now have antibodies to Covid-19. It is absolute insanity, they should be told to fuck off back to their ivory towers.

What are you on about? Vaccine has been found. The vaccine appears to be exceeding expectations so hopefully thereâll be no need for restrictions anymore. Had we listened to nutters like Gupta hundreds of thousands more would have died. She quietened down, you on the other hand, even with hindsight are talking the same simplistic gibberish.
