Is that only current data?
Is it though? We are in an emergency, we have chronic problems getting staff, yet we want to turf out ones we already have.
Not sure thatās true. Itās a chicken and egg problem. If you were starting out from scratch you wouldnāt set it up the way it currently is, but hard to extricate ourselves from it.
Say there was a showdown and Ireland says this is the new contract, take it or leave it, and consultants refuse to take it. How long do you think that would last? They canāt all go abroad or into private only positions, it has to work through at some point.
Also, say youāre correct and we do need them more, is that good enough reason to allow them to hold the entire health care system to ransom? Iād say no.
They have the highest number of daily cases in western Europe. Maybe they test more than other countries.
If you had a family member in hospital now with a non Covid problem, would you want an unvaccinated person poking around them?
Afraid to put the egg out to bat.
Maybe they should include a subject based on altruism or social awareness as part of the medicine course ? There seems to be a lot in it solely for the money and prestige as opposed to maximising their skill set to do good ā¦
My family are all double jabbed, and my elderly family are tripled jabbed. I would have no problem with it, and Iād certainly chose it over having nobody. Iāve seen my mam on a trolley for over 12 hours (before covid existed) in the LUH.
Would you refuse care from an unvaccinated nurse/doctor?
Nah they donāt anymore per million which is the only relevant comparison. They do test a lot as well.
In absolute terms, Germany have passed them.
are there lads here without private health insurance???
thats fucking reckless carry on tbf
I donāt think that is necessarily true. I think that the bigger issue with the health service is the agency set up to manage it - the HSE. They are just a disaster. No planning, no strategic thinking, wait until the shit hits the fan and react then.
For elderly relatives I would yes.
I appreciate you answering.
I couldnāt disagree more mind.
I agree re HSE but thereās awful messing going on with consultantsā¦
I remember forum legend @caoimhaoin famously refused to invest in health insurance , claimed it was an absolute waste of moneyā¦I agreed with that man on most points but Iām not sure if that was one of his finer momentsā¦
6 of the top 10 there would be considered highly vaccinated countries so I donāt think so.
In reality it likely makes little difference. Irish hospitals are riddled with Covid (which is airborne) and have been since early in the pandemic. In a study done in 2015 Ireland was found to be totally unprepared for a pandemic, only a third of hospitals had any notion or semblance of infectious disease control.
The reality is if you enter a hospital in Ireland, especially Limerick and Galway, you are likely to be exposed to Covid. Most front line health care workers in Ireland have had Covid, some of them multiple times by now. As early as June 2020 Ireland had the highest level of infections of health care staff in the world.
When it comes to infectious disease control Ireland is a third world country, itās another in a long list of disgraces of the HSE.
Consultants donāt want to give up their conditions. Why would they. New consultants want the same conditions the old ones got, quite naturally.
We have a muddled up public/private system.
If we want a proper public health service, we need to move private treatment out of the public system. That means consultants cannot treat private patients in public hospitals. That means a major change to their terms and conditions.
So the vaccines work eh. Whoād have guessed that doctors and scientists knew a bit more than lads who engage in wearing tinfoil on their head and spend 12 hours a day banging keyboards shouting about BILL GATES and LIZARD PEOPLE
