I’ll just briefly explain the “Casey factor” for you.

Peter Casey chose to generalise about and vilify Travellers, and deny their ethnic status.

Casey was fully aware of the latent bigotry against Travellers within a significant section of Irish society and chose to attempt to whip up this bigotry for self-serving reasons in order to attract support for a floundering presidential campaign.

By doing this he encouraged ignorant bigots to voice their ignorant, bigoted, abhorrent opinions.

That’s exactly what happens when ignorant bigots bring their ignorant bigotry into politics.

There is precisely no difference in principle between what he did and what the Nazis did against Jews.

John Connors’ opinions, such as his own ignorant blathering about the 8th Amendment referendum, are fair game for ridicule.

Him being vilified for being a Traveller is straight up racist bigotry.
