Our bins are with greyhound. They got nearly everyone in the estate to siign up when we first moved in. Great deal, 17e a month with no annual fee. Over the course of 4 years that has gone up to 30e a month.
Panda arrived in the estate the other day. 4 months free. Rest of year at 14e a month. Next year at 17e per month. Nearly every single house has/is switching.
I used to work for VF. Now, this was 8yrs ago so things may have changed. We all know that these companies set up their customer service so nobody with a query or complaint can make it through the web of roundabout options. The way to get their attention around 8yrs was social media, as it exposed them publicly. Twitter, especially. If you @sky, their competitors and comreg or whatever body is currently policing them, along with a seething and overly dramatic rant, you used to get a human messaging you quickly for your customer number and resolved in record time, and that info was from someone working on their social media team.
We got Virgin for Internet and TV when we moved in. They’ve the media hub thing in all the houses here so it was the easiest crowd to get in at the time. They’ve doubled the price so I rang to cancel. They’d only come down to a price about 20 euro more than I’m paying per month now, so I said we’d cancel.
Options now are Sky, Eir, etc. All seem to have poor customer service (I found Virgin fine as you’re usually talking to someone down in Limerick, kid) but I’d imagine their actual service is much of a muchness?
My late father, God Rest Him, had a problem with the cable TV (I think it was NTL at the time). He got a pain in his arse ringing the call centre (which happened to be in Waterford) and being fobbed off. So he drove out to the Industrial Estate where the call centre was, waited at the door until someone came out and took his chance to go inside and refused to leave until he got a supervisor to deal with his problem and promise to get a repairman out to the house. He was in his late 70s at this stage.
This is probably one of the reasons they moved the call centres to India.
Sky for me. Eir are cunts.
Outstanding
I’ve heard that. Is all Sky now over wifi as opposed to through a dish?

I have Sky broadband and a sky dish.
It’s common in VF’s HQ in Leopardstown. I would say you’d probably get one landing in every day. It gets the job done.
How dare he demand that someone he is paying money to delivers on their promised service.

Bi curamach. I bought anothertelly for the oul fella for the rubby there a few weeks back. They were desperately trying to get it signed up to sky without the dish (sky liquid or somesuch name). I actually got through to a very nice sky person, explained the situation, and he said to deco stick with the old system. Apparently you can’t pause or record the new system the same as the old one. I can’t quite remember, but when he went through the pros and cons, we agreed the old system was away better.
The new system would also mean that if the Internet is down, the tv is down as well!
Sky Glass
One of the dumbest ideas to ever come to Ireland.
That’s it. It seemed worse in every way.

The cheat on my day was to press # and you get a human
I’m sure I’ve mentioned them in the past but Sextons menswear in Limerick are unreal for customer service.
Will give loads of advice, no problem bringing something home to try on, will always do a deal on the price, and often throw in something extra.
That’s quality. Surely you have a few more belters involving your auld lad, may he rest in peace. It gave me a chuckle, hopefully gave you one too, thinking about it.
