Probably. The turbo will eat the rubber off the tyres. I’ve an old bike permanently on mine.

Exciting finish here

I did a small bit of turbo over winter when I knew I wouldn’t be on road. I switched over to an auld (not fully worn )tyre for the back wheel during that period

Seems to be available online with Halfords on sale at the minute for around 400 quid. Might get one.

Are carbon frame bikes worth the extra dosh? I have an aluminium frame one now, Trek which cost me around 700. Carbon frame ones seem to start at 2k. Are they a bit of a fad or would you notice a big difference on them?

I have a carbon trek and it is very nice. But it’s plastic, any crash and it’s a write off. For Irish roads which are quite abrasive I think you’re as well off with an aluminium. Better off investing in two good wheels.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the bike being a write off after a crash!!!

Come the day he’ll be stripped of everything himself

I disagree strongly. Decent carbon will take a fair few falls. Aluminium is a harsh harsh ride (I hate the stuff), tends to warp away from the drive chain, and can fatigue where carbon won’t. Its also fugly. Carbon all day every day, especially on irish roads, or steel. Titanium is too bombproof, is also ugly, and never gives you an excuse to change your bike.

As an aside, I saw an Asian gentleman of later vintage cycling presumably to work this morning in a suit on a bike with standard racing drop handlebars. He had these rotated 90 degrees, so that the brake levers pointed directly upwards, and he was using the levers to rest his hands on.

Dan Martin having a mare on the TT. Lost 41 secs on the first time check

He lost two minutes and is now joint 10th. Alaphilippe actually beat Thomas in the TT to extend his lead. Not normal as the man said.

Other members of his team had surprisingly good performances too. They must have trained very hard over the winter

Good start to Vuelta for Irish. Nico leads overall and Bennett won stage today

Best day for Iriscycling in years. Bennett won it handy enough.

He’s the best sprinter in the race by a mile. Should win a few stages.
