Daily Debate - Barcelona 2008-2011 v Real Madrid 2013-2018

Who was the better team peps great Barcelona team led by messi or the Real Madrid side who won four out of five champions leagues. Please stay on topic. For me I think it’s a tough one but I don’t think Real ever got the credit they deserve. I thought Barcelona played the best football I’ve ever seen at times under pep.

In terms of panache Barca in terms of results Real so they get my vote

Barcelona surely. They won more league titles during their reign and were more convincing as European winners.

Thought Real were good but they did win in extra time and penalties a couple of times. Barca beat United who were defending champions and who had 2 of the 3 best players in the world at the time.

Real only won the league once in that period. Their middle year of the 3 in a row they were outstanding in fairness

Where’s the Poll?

Barcelona for me.

How do I insert the poll ?

Barcelona and it’s not close.

Barca.

Madrid won more CLs but that Barca team terrorized Europe whilst also providing the spine of a Spain team that took over football for about 5 years. In their pomp Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets (most underrated player of recent times) were absolutely mesmeric in midfield. They played the game to a different pitch to everyone else, almost like they were toying with the opposition. It was the best football I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and Messi…

They probably had better teams to beat too. A lot of the big European teams were relatively weak during peps era. That man united team beat in 2012 was not good.x

Come back @Big_Dan_Campbell

I think Barcelona thrived in a weak enough period too. They lost to a poor enough Chelsea team by the end of peps time and beat a bad united team in the final. I think both at their very peak Real Madrid would probably win simply because they far more pragmatic. Barcelona would refuse to change their style and that was probably their down fall.

This is real soccer hipster stuff. @the_man_himself will be in his element here.

Probably a bit too mainstream to be hipster

@ChairmanDan really struggles to grasp what a football hipster is.

It’s thankfully gone over @myboyblue head.

I would say Barca, the CL has been devalued greatly in the past 15 years or so.

I saw that Real side under Zidane get outplayed in some many games but they had a great knack of grabbing a goal, usually an away one against the run of play.

Barcelona players won’t take a Coronavirus pay cut despite the clubs pleadings.

Més que un club indeed.

The Spanish tax man needs them all being paid in full

What did he do with their Taxes for the rest of their time there?

And I’m sure that’s the reason Messi et al are refusing and instead standing by to watch the club sack lower staff.
