Darren told us that Down narrowly lost out on promotion to Division 1 earlier this morning during the qualifier draw.

*ohoh…just before we go back to marty in limerick an update from Newry where it’s down 1 7 is it armagh 0 07… wowww…

(5 minutes later… a break from the horrific mullane morrisey commentary and back to Bernard flynn )
Down 1 06 Armagh 0 09 where down havent scored since the break

Carnage.

I caught a bit of Sunday Sort yesterday. Mullane was commentating on the Galway Wexford match.

‘Oooh Marty it’s been REALLLLYY poor stuff here - Bernard Flynn in the football seems to have a great game in Tullamore to be watching. Looks like I drew the short straw!!’

And then to Tullamore to Flynn with Adrian Eames:

‘I. tell. you. Adrian. John Mullane has called it well - this is a CRRAACKKER!!’

The two boys were savage negative on Wexford. They’d them completely written off at half time despite missing a pile of frees and playing into a gale

Another Frehill comment that has come to mind from this morning’s draw.

‘Louth versus Antrim. Antrim with a great league campaign but beaten by Tyrone at the weekend’.

Antrim failed to get promoted from Division 4.

Where is this utter simpleton from and how did he get a job on RTÉ?

He’s from Galway I think and he used to commentate on soccer matches previously for TV3.

I’d say there are a few lines of coke every morning in the RTE sports department.

That explains a lot

Darren used his broadcast media and editing prowess, along with having access to RTÉ archives to make this haunting, beautiful and motivational piece which was shown to the Galway team in their team hotel the night before the 2017 All Ireland Final.

I don’t think they’d have won it without him.

How many scoreable frees were missed yesterday? Genuine question

2 absolute gimmes by Chin. The one from about 30 yards out to the right of the posts into the wind in the first half and the one from around 50 yards out which the keeper caught under the bar at 14 each. Then he missed around 4 others in the first half which were further out and difficult, but the type that Horgan or Canning would be at least 2/4 on and possibly even higher. Fanning lofting 3 wild efforts from our own half back line wide with the wind behind us was bad too. McGovern and Chin also missed two sitters apiece from play.

They were only playing Waterford mate. I really don’t think an edited package from Darren was needed to see them over the line

Both teams found it very hard to score from the open terrace side of the field into the wind. Wexford had a few shockers drift across the face of the goals from that side.

Bernard Flynn is very excitable altogether on the radio

Chin hit 9 wides in total alone. I think the frees missed were playing on him and he was forcing shots then trying to make up for it. A couple of the ones he missed he had players in better position to take on the play. The miss by Dunbar (really weirdly pronounced by Ursula on the Sunday Game too I might add) was a key play too. Not just at the time of the game, it would have won it, but just the fact it wasnt clinical enough. 14 yards out, needs to be buried. Scuttery low bouncing shot isnt worth a fuck. Great play from Jack to set him up tho, good catch and great awareness and skill to get a good pass off to him under pressure. Positives are we created a shit load of chances, but for as long as I’ve been watching Wexford, counting wides is as important as counting scores.

Ken hit 7 wides in the 2003 Munster Final. All from play.
