Did that say something . He wasnât with a contending club then . Around then Souness had the pick of English players to bring up and he went for Chris Woods as his culbaire
He wasnât crap but was well past his best from 1986 to 1990 .
Shilton always looked so rigid as a keeper to meâŠanything left or right of him seemed like such an effort to get to âŠit was like he had a bad back and needed to methodically go through a defined process to do anything as opposed to instinctivelyâŠ

Dave Beasant said Shilton wouldnât take any advice on board ahead of the pens in 1990. Said he would wait til it was hit and trust himself. He was embarrassing for those German penalties

Big Nev would have had significantly improved that England team
The freekick notwithstanding but in the same game he guessed the right way for all the penalties and still couldnât get a hand to any of them.

Did Bobby Robson ever think of putting Bryan Robson in goal after he dislocated his shoulder in '86? Even an injured Robson would surely have made a better attempt to punch that ball away than Shilton?
