Documentaries worth watching

Anyone ever see “Searching for Sugarman”

Was recommended to me as the greatest documentary ever by a barman who claims to watch nothing but documentaries.

Haven’t watched it yet, but its on the agenda. It picked up the BAFTA for Doc Sunday night and Mark Kermode was raving about it recently enough. Meant to be the sort of story you’re better off knowing nothing about before you watch it, which is how I intend to so I’m trying to avoid hearing too much on it.

I know Raymond Crotty rated it very highly. Think he posted about it on here somewhere, maybe the Good Films thread.

I saw Hearts and Minds recently. An Oscar winning documentary on the Vietnam War. It is very anti War. I thought it was good enough but a little biased. For instance a lot is shown of the torture suffered by Vietnamese prisoners of war. An American POW is also depicted but nothing about the torture he went through. He is still pro war and is depicted as a bit of a fool.

Just downloaded it on the Apple TV.

I’ll watch it later and report back (without revealing anything)

Extraordinary story.

Get it, Watch it.

Watched ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold’ last night. Morgan Spurlock makes a movie about product placement and corporate partnership in the movies. A large part of it is him attempting to get sponsors to finance the movie.
Nothing ground breaking, nor are there any earth shattering revelations in it but he sells it very well, it’s quite funny in parts and a decent watch.

One for F1 & photography fans.

Just watched King of Kong. Nerdishly entertaining.
Billy Mitchell is an ubercunt.

Fire in Babylon.

Excellent film about the great West Indies team of the 70’s and how they chaged their mentality and approach under Clive Lloyd, the challenges they faced off the field, the racist abuse they received in Australia and the outrage over their pace attack. Good interviews with the players, good music, great footage and photography of the games, an all round great show.

sounds gash

The Most Dangerous Man in America

All about Daniel Ellsberg and his leaking of top secret Pentagon Papers in 1971 regarding the US involvement and decision making in Vietnam.
Truman, Eisenhower, JFK all shown to have lied to the American people about the situation but Nixon really shown up as a dreadful cunt.
Interesting stuff.

It’s cracking. Think I posted about it on the Tonight’s TV thread when they showed it on BBC. The bit on how Colin Croft was basically ostracised by the entire community after his stint on the rebel tour to SA was particularly interesting. You could tell he regretted going on it, but still wouldn’t admit it.

Did a bit of reading up on john cazale (fredo) after rewatching the godfather trilogy.

Remarkable career in both its short duration (5 movies) and quality (each film he was in won best picture) and also the fact he was banging meryl streep

Hbo did a doc on him called “I knew it was you” and its very good
