Peter Jackson’s They Shall Not Grow Old

BBC 2 - 9:30 - Sunday night

Must watch I believe

Talking to Peter when he first came up with the idea (cc @ironmoth) he was heel bent on showing the true horror of trench warfare. I hope he pulled it off.

The greatest waste of human life ever - dressed up as battling evil / for freedom in more recent times as an after effect of WW2. WW1 was nothing of the sort - royal cousins sending the peasants/ working class off to be slaughtered for the sake of their royal egos.

90% of the British and Irish men that fought didnt even have a vote ffs ! I

Ah but they got the vote for fighting

Just a couple of million of them had to die to get it.

Never forget

Watched it about a month back. Very well put together and pulls no punches.

Watched the Senna documentary/film again last evening on ITV4, really good if you haven’t seen it before.

Not sure how correct this is. Like in most wars officers are targeted.

Documentary on the other night saying that there was such a scarcity of officers that young officers of 17 were commanding 40 year old troops.

What?
