I suppose the fact that I wouldn’t mess with either of them is about all they have in common.
Just finished watching the 3 part doc on Boston Celtics v LA Lakers rivalry in the 80s. I’m sure it’s been discussed here before but what a fucking show. I know fuck all about basketball but the unbelievable drama coupled with the huge personalities topped off with the racial tension make it an enthralling watch.

I must watch it — one of the few I havent seen yet.
I didn’t want it to end. What a cast of characters. You literally couldn’t make them up. Red Auerebach , Larry Bird, Bill Walton, Kevin McHale, Magic, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Danny ainge , James Worthy, Dr Buss to name just a few. All of them would be great material for a doc of their own. Altogether the result is absolutely fascinating.

I had set the series on series link, and presumed it had recorded it 3 times. Couldn’t believe when the first one ended and there was still decades to go. Great stuff.

Right at the tail end of that rivalry you get the bad boys Pistons - A truly brilliant 30 for 30 if you havent seen it.
Lakers far more talented but Bird was an animal… descendant of the O’Brids so he’s one of our own.
Bird resembled a hillbilly extra from The Dukes of Hazard. He looked in no way like an athlete. All out of proportion and uncoordinated. But give him a basketball and he was transformed into something beautiful. An absolutely ferocious competitor too.
