Does whiskey go off after its been open for a bit?

I was at a wine society talk a while back, and the speaker opined that a fair bit of high end claret is now being produced never to be drunk, purely as a commodity. It’s mental really.

A lot of that demand was driven by the Chinese market, they may not be as interested in claret appreciation for a while.

Midleton Barry Crocket. Sweet Jesus. Nicest I’ve ever had

I bought that whiskey set in Dunnes during the week. Will I open the Midleton first?

They’re all lovely. Are you planning on drinking all of them in one session?
If so I’d start with the Redbreast which is probably the mildest.

I haven’t had a drop since Super Bowl. Was planning just the one or two.

Save it. Drink it on its own some time

A great bargain, as mentioned. I agree with @anon7035031 on starting with the Redbreast.

For anyone with five grand lying about…

Powers White Label was John McGahern’s favourite whiskey.

Short answer: I agree with FO’D on Waterford Distillery. Will likely become by far the best new Irish distillery (and one of the finest in the world).

Can give a long answer as well. But do not want to maunder on…

Having a drop of Glendronach 15yr old here. Too peaty/smoky for my liking

Redbreast 12 year. Lovely stuff.

Save it. You will appreciate it over the next two weeks

A lovely mellow drop. Have you had green spot, the two side by side are a lovely contrast.

One after the other? Sup after sup?

No, sip one until its gone, have a sup of water and start the other.
Rinse and repeat.

I don’t drink whiskey but that sounds a bit much.

What are you doing in the whiskey thread then?
