Drugs In Rugby

How many other superstars have they let slip through their fingers due to missing their potential? Was it a bigger miss than Leinster letting Beirne go?

Dillane was offered an academy deal on about 10k a year, Connacht offered about 30k development deal. In hindsight of course it is a poor decision but I dont think its a symptom of a great structural deficiency in the organisation that you are hinting at.

Ryan was a disappointing loss. No doubt. Munster fans and Id say much of the coaching structure were seething over it. But when the IRFU wont pay the piper then what do you do. Munster knew they had Murray, Stander and POM to tie down and id say whatever private money they had available to supplement IRFU salary was accounted for there. And they knew they had Beirne in pipeline.

Madigan? Or is it possible Leinster saw the pipline ahead and picked their battles?

Surely

+1. Well said.

On top of which Ryan was at the higher age range, wasn’t cast-iron for Ireland (i.e. not a central contract by any means) and had a significant injury profile.

There is definitely an underbelly of continued victimhood from some Munster fans, it’s fairly unbecoming.

The victimhood here is coming from glas though who isnt a Munster fan. Agree with your latter point think I said as much at the time disappointing to lose him but was some logic behind the decision whether one agreed with it or not

He was the best lock in Ireland last year without doubt and he would be starting for Ireland in the 6 nations were he still here and fit. The rest is all true and he’s more or less been injured since he went there anyway.

I wouldn’t say there’s much here to be fair - more in other forums/social media

Id tend to avoid fan forums like the plague. And most of twitter also. The one eyed nature of it is infuriating

I don’t bother that much but I’d watch rugby and generally like to see minster winning, or any of the Irish teams. I just think they’ve been pretty shambolic in this whole episode.

There was probably less money available at the time sexton went which is another factor.

You’re point about the clubs having an eye on other upcoming contracts and picking their battles is a good one.

What’s the deal with Nuciforas personal situation you referenced?

Ryan threatened to leave around the time of the second Heineken Cup win, he made quite the ultimatum to the Munster chiefs ye week of the final.

His daughter died in last few weeks

Fuck.

Reports aren’t too clear either which makes its own suggestions.

No idea. She was only 21. Tragic either way.

Any comment on this @glasagusban

Have we had this yet?

Is this the guy that weirdo Kimmage mentions or interviews every 2 or 3 months? He’s as bad as Brolly for recycling the same article. Seems to be a real “I need to have the last word” merchant.
