He effectively would be the main man under Gilroy though.

But as a previous All-Ireland winning manager who is also Vincent’s man, Gilroy would give him serious cover.

Facilitator/Manager - Coach/Manager.
Gilroy. Kenny.

Hmmm. Not so sure

He’d be better than Cunningham as an option, if they decide to go with Gilroy though

Knowledge of club scene is largely irrelevant to modern IC Hurling

It surely is if you are appointing someone with no past experience of hurling management and who has lived abroad for the last several years so wouldnt be up to speed with all available players

Was a lenghty discussion on OTB about this earlier. They hadnt a clue really about the only thing they were sure about was the fact is wasnt a hung vote.

Gilroy the most likely option they felt.

Fitzgibnon and u21 way higher valued.

Ub doesn’t even take place when you need lads to come into form. Most county managers watch the closing stages after their county has finished.

You actually do not have the time in the week to go from March to september.

I agree with @caoimhaoin in that in this day and age an outside manager will come in and get a list of around 60 or 70 lads and play a shit load of games in the bog in November, December and January and see enough of them to get a league panel together in February. Don’t think he necessarily needs to be in situ watching club games now or have deep knowledge of players in advance. He can top up his panel then after the league if there are a few players staking a claim in the early stages of next year’s championship - he’ll know more about what he’s got to work with at that stage.

Id say Kenny would have a better knowledge of fitzgibbon and u 21 as well tbf!!

Ya thats true.

He is essentially a head coach though.

I would suggest Cunningham is the issue. The other 2 together might work better

That was also the conclusion on OTB. Shane Stapleton (who plays for Kenny at Cuala) made a conpelling case for him it must be said

Is that a trial? I thought trials were bad practice? cc @Brimmer_Bradley

It’s a bit of a saga at this stage. I’d be happy enough with either Gilroy or Kenny. I just hope there is no lingering bitterness for the new manager from all of this. There is obviously all sorts of chicanery going on in the background.

Trials are the devils work. We’ll keep training 100+ juvenile players every week and put the weaker lads in at the deep end because it’s not nice to drop a player.
That’ll work out great.

Ye have weak lads going for trials and on development squads?

Makes sense

Ok Kev.

I’d prefer Kenny, but am fascinated to see what Gilroy would bring to the table

One things for sure, he wouldn’t accept second best from the county board so for that alone, it could be worth it

Good point . The DCB let the Ger Cunningham fiasco go unchecked for too long . If the Dublin footballers had a better team in NYC and Boston for a summer you can rest assured the matter would have been resolved .

I believe thats iften down to the people involved (as in hurling people) not being clever or driven enough. Not so much the CB

Hurling people don’t appoint it is the DCB . My point really is that a similar situation with the footballers would have massive financial ramifications for DCB and the GAA as a whole .

A similar situation with the footballers would have seen a mob outside Parnell with pitchforks. It would never ever ever have been let to get to that stage with them

The ‘people involved’ are the County Board officers - over both the footballers and hurlers, so I don’t subscribe to Kev’s point above.
