Dublin Pubs - Hall of Fame

WB Yeats would have agreed with you.

Were you ever in Hartigan’s up the way?

Lovely spot.

Not in there in god knows how many years. Used live up the road, in 1980s. But a friend swears by this spot. Goes there every Saturday.

Must revisit.

Over 10 times I’d say though it’s over a decade since I was last there. I hope it hasn’t been done up. A delightfully dowdy house.

Was not in Hartigan’s since before lockdown, alas. Always a terrific spot. A great place to entertain TCD girls, back in rhe day.

My absence is silly but has no reason. Remember interviewing Éamonn Cregan in Limerick in 2018 and travelling up to Dublin afterwards to meet a Kilkenny friend so as to see Richard Thompson in NCH. Absolutely brilliant gig – one made better again by a couple of pints in Hartigan’s beforehand. Pat had never been in there before, even though my exact contemporary in 1980s UCD, and was most impressed.

The phrase “delightfully dowdy” is a brilliant (and entirely accurate) phrase, which I will plagiarize. Let Hartigan’s always be a dowd…

It’s as dowdy and brown as ever.

I was a regular there in my student days so call in whenever in Dublin if I can. The couch upholstery and springs, and walls, are all in full working order now but there haven’t been any updates that would constitute a refurbishment.

They have live music on a Saturday evening for the last while which is a big departure but it was a fairly informal setup the couple of times I caught it. They had it in the small yard out the back the evening before the All Ireland final a couple of years ago which was good craic.

Last time I called in was November and Dave Duffy was playing the fiddle and guitar, and sang a few songs (logged in the appropriate thread).

As the grey unyielding concrete, makes a city of my town…

Fuck it, that’s a pity.
Great spot after a match in croke park.

‘Institutions’ feels like our modern day ‘Cathedrals’ classification?

What do.you remember of the following hour?

Just a pile of anger directed at the barman mixed with a great sense of shame. You take enough of the tranquilizer to get intoxicated, but not enough to pass out.

It’s mainly used for cats.
