I was watching the football on the BBC over the weekend. Jarath Burns stated that to win in championship you needed âeconomy, intensity and qualityâ. He was bang on. I often would refer to economy as simply good decision making.
Anyways, I think that this Cork senior hurling team, with the exception of one individual, have those traits in abundance.
ya, who? sweeping statementâŚtrying to live up to you monkiers rep???
Corkâs forwards are very accurate when going for a point. I would say that their conversion of point scoring chances is the highest of all the teams left. Harnedy, Kearney and Joyce are wonderful additions. Their decision making/taking the right option is fantastic for such young players.
Hardly? They were very wasteful against Limerick, and also had a high number of wides against Kilkenny I think.
I would imagine limerick have a far superior shots to scores ratio.
Had a lot of wides v Limerick especially in the first half, which I maintain however were down to being forced to shoot under pressure. The Clare forwards can be lethal but can also be prone to taking speculative shots, if put under a lot of pressure I reckon theyâll rack up a lot of wides.
Do we have 20/21 of these players really that are AI winning standard though? I would have thought not within the current squad, doesnt mean we wont win the AI mindâŚI think we will beat Dublin.

Thats a fair point about the Limerick game. However, I was speaking more in general terms.
Fancy Cork in this one. Momentum, once lost, can be very hard to regain and this is to Dublinâs detriment.
I donât buy the argument that Cork have more ânaturalâ hurlers. Dublin have a savage team-ethic and are physically strong but a five-week lay-off with no club games played isnât going to help them. Cork are a work in progress and have possibly overachieved by reaching this stage but, now that theyâre there, I think theyâll have enough.
This could be a pretty decent game. Dublin wonât lack for intensity but the KK game will have given Cork that bit of assuredness about their play that was lacking a bit in earlier games.

Cork by 3.
Interesting bit of a contrast in both the games left. Dublin and Limerick a bit more physical and based on huge workrate and intensity. Clare and Cork lighter and faster and based on moving the ball accurately.

Iâd rate the Dublin backs but they are lacking the natural hurling ability from 8-15 that cork possess IMHO.
To be honest, I would not pick any of the Dublin forwards ahead of the Cork forwards.
Agreed. With the exception of the wind that ruined Cork v Clare all of this yearâs major games have been played in near-perfect conditions which often suit the lighter, speedier team. Would be interesting to see what would unfold if we were to get a stinker of a day weather-wise for either of the semis.
Cork players, management and supporters donât rate Dublin because of their lack of tradition. Theyâll talk them up in public but privately, much like Fenwayâs sentiments, they canât imagine losing to a Dublin hurling team. On top of that, Dublin are the team who have been on the road for longer, who have the greater need.
This hunger combined with Cork arrogance could be enough.

We could dust off the old, âon a wet day Limerick/Dublin might drag them down to their levelâ chestnut!
Not sure the wind ruined the Cork v Clare game though, Clare ruined that themselves.
