Knows what exactly? How to try and be something you are not? On recent evidence he doesn’t know.
Darragh Ó Sé is expecting Kerry to turn Dublin over in Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final.
The veteran of many memorable Kerry V Dublin tussles, the former Kingdom midfielder says the Munster champions can defy the odds and book a place in the All-Ireland final:
“If Dublin win, a huge part of it will be because they have the advantage of being young and pacy and dynamic,” he writes in The Irish Times. "Whereas if you look at this Kerry team and the one that beat Dublin in 2009, the main characters haven’t changed very much. The big men for Kerry that day were Colm Cooper, Tomás Ó Sé, Marc Ó Sé, Declan O’Sullivan and Paul Galvin. Four years on, they are still the players Kerry are turning to this Sunday.
"Kerry fellas would always have this feeling that the Dubs would be half-mocking them and that any game against them would be a chance to put them in their place. Whether that’s the case or not wouldn’t really matter too much - it would be the mindset going in. You’d always believe you could beat Dublin.
"I’ve played with a lot of those Kerry footballers and they are just too good to roll over. People are talking in terms of Dublin giving them a trimming but I just don’t see it. Yes, Dublin is where the smart money would be going but did you ever think you’d see Kerry going into an All-Ireland semi-final available at over 2/1? Those Kerry players will take that as an insult. If that isn’t enough to make their boil, what is?
"I’m going to let my heart do the talking here, whatever about what my head says. I just don’t see these older Kerry players allowing their legacy to be a hiding from the Dubs in Croke Park. After everything they’ve achieved, I just don’t see them allowing that to happen. The pressure that it creates can only bring the best out of proven players.
"I’m going to go with Kerry for Sunday. I’m trusting the players that are there, the ones I played with. I’ve seen the Dubs in the flesh this year and I’ve watched teams like Meath give them buckets of it.
“Going on the evidence of the games so far, you’d go for a Dublin win. But based on my experience of these Kerry players, I genuinely think they have it in them. They’re going into the game in a perfect position - everybody writing them off, nobody giving them a shout. That doesn’t happen too often to Kerry players.”
second article now where O Se seems to be putting pressure on the older Kerry players to perform on sunday…even in the unlikely event of them getting bet on sunday I don’t think it diminishes what those players have achieved in their careers…it doesn’t come down to one game…as brian O driscoll learned over the summer you don’t always get to decide how you bow out…in general most great players that keep playing on just fade away in the end…that’s the sad reality of high level Sport… O Se is judging his days against a less talented Dubin team that felt inferior to Kerry with a Dublin team that has beaten Kerry…

It shows how far behind Kerry were if they only started checking fat levels this year!!

what you think of Kerry team kev?..looks quite young in defence to track the dubs forwards…they’ve put their fastest ball careers in FF line too …none of them particularly big so it looks like they will be sending in low ball out the wings and hope FF line skins their markers… I’d say Cian O neill has them ready for sunday…
Daragh’s logic is bizarre. He is completely ignoring the following
- Kerry’s remaining players being 4 years older and slower than 09
- Their replacements being a pale shadow of the players of 09 (Crowley instead of Mike Mac?)
- Dublin are mentally and physically far superior to that 09 team.
- His belief in this amateur psychology bull shit lends me to believe he is either full of shit, he doesn’t talk to his brothers or Kerry have not modernized their mental approach.
All in all it is such poor analysis he should have the column withdraw from him, it’s embarrassing.

Yea, imagine the amount of All Ireland Finals they could have contested to go with the meagre 9 they’ve taken part in over the past 13 years. And all because they werent checking their athletes fat levels.
The mind boggles.

I think they’d have win another 3 if they were as conditioned as the opposition.
They have admitted as much themselves.
Just cos you gave up cos your not able to look after yourself doesn’t mean the rest of the GAA has to hold on for you.
I don’t expect you to understand this, but carrying excess fat at elite levels can collectively slow down a team cumulatively.

Completely agree.
You agree that a column based on someones beliefs should be withdrawn from them because they stated their beliefs? Weirdo.
Did I agree to all that? If so, yes! Yes! Yes, I agree. Kerry are fucking shit and will get destroyed by the champions elect on Sunday.
Mayo are the champions elect mate, fall in, or else

The fitness and time needed (with young players, not a load of 30+) to develop the game he is trying to play takes more than a year, sometimes longer in amateur sport, do I think they have an issue or two there anyway.
On their team. The backs have a bit of pace, but nothing fantastic. Defending isn’t just about pace and they struggled with Cavan’s movement. Dublins movement is excellent, movement is in the head, pace makes good movement a killer. I don’t think Kerry have the right mix of that.
Midfield will be very competitive and the full forward line is dangerous but I don’t think that half forward line as a unit can go back and forward enough to have an overall effect on the game.
Dublin by 7-8 minimum.

Clutching at straws on a whole new level from Kerry.
Sean O’Sullivan believes Killian Young is “a huge loss” to Kerry.
The Renard clubman has been ruled out of Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Dublin after sustaining a horrific ankle / shin injury in a training match on Saturday and former Kingdom star O’Sullivan says it’s a big setback for the Munster champions.
“Killian is a huge loss,” O’Sullivan told Radio Kerry. "He is a left half-back doing a job at centre back. He has come in for a lot of unfair criticism and he was just coming into his own during the Cavan game.
"It is a huge game for him to miss out on. He would have been an ideal match-up for Ciarán Kilkenny.
"Tomás Ó Sé has always had the better of Diarmuid Connolly, Peter Crowley is the right man for Paul Flynn, Shane Enright will be suited to Paul Mannion and Eoin Brosnan is probably the best man to try keep tabs on Kilkenny now
another Kerry man coming out telling us how they have the upper hand over the dubs…really bizarre stuff…what ever happened to the cute Kerry hoor ??.. and we haven’t even had Darragh’s second instalment of Kerry’s superiority yet…that will be in tomorrow’s Times…
Tomas O Se has always had the better of Diarmuid Connolly? How many times have they played against each other in the championship?
Dublin are going to fucking smash Kerry.
How different is the build up to this match than 2009 when everyone thought Dublin would put the final nail in a misfiring Kerry?
Kerry - older
Dublin - younger
Different managers
No Wheelie Bin
Quite different really. Even the jerseys are different FFS.

Different jersies. I see.
Never underestimate the influence this vital factor will have on proceedings. Heffo is dead too, that will no doubt prove influential over the course of the 70 minutes.

He’s also basing his prediction on a match in 2009, conveniently ignoring a relatively important game between the two a couple of years ago.
Lads, can anyone recommend a good place to pick up a ticket Sunday morning in Dublin? Struggling badly to get one at present.
