The big difference is the standard of player in Kerry. Dublin are undoubtably in a better place now, but Kerry are miles away from where they were. They don’t have the leaders they had then.
Kerry 2009
Kerry: D Murphy; M O Sé, T Griffin, T O’Sullivan (0-1); T O Sé (0-2), M McCarthy, K Young; D O Sé, S Scanlon (0-1); P Galvin (0-2), Declan O’Sullivan (0-3), D Walsh (0-1); C Cooper (1-7, 0-4f), T Walsh, Darran O’Sullivan (0-3).
Subs: T Kennelly (0-2) for T Walsh ’31, P O’Connor (0-2, -1f) for D Walsh ’49, S O’Sullivan for D O’Sullivan for D O’Sullivan ’60, A O’Mahony for Young ’61,M Quirke for D O’Sé ’61.
Walsh, Tom Sull, Kenneally, Mike Mac, Sean Sull, Tommy Griffen all gone and replaced with inferior players. The first 4 were leaders in various ways.
The more you look back on it the more I think Cork have done very well over last few years. That was a serious Kerry team.
Agree Kev. The Dublin team looks a different proposition while Kerry man for man don’t look anywhere near as good as 2009. There are definitely some similarities in the build up though with Dublin being hugely praised (if it wasn’t for how awesome mayo have been the hype would be through the ceiling) while Kerry being written off.
I expect Dublin to win but I don’t expect a tanking. I think Kerry’s true form is closer to how they looked in the first half v cork. They haven’t needed to reach the same heights since. Also, Meath did pose a challenge for Dublin, and I do reckon Kerry are a lot stronger than Meath.
S Cluxton; D Henry, D Bastick, P Andrews; P Griffin, B Cullen, B Cahill (0-1); R McConnell, D Magee; P Flynn, D Connolly, B Brogan (0-3, 2f); A Brogan (0-3), C Keaney (1-0), J Sherlock. Subs - C Whelan for Magee (14); P Burke for Sherlock (23); C O’Sullivan for Cullen (27); A Hubbard for Henry (39); S Ryan for McConnell (65).

Nah, Kerry in 1st half of Munster was an aberration. Helped by Cork playing at below training pace.
Don’t get me wrong, Dublin have issues and are far from the finished article, but athleticism and the experience their forwards have over Kerry’s backs should prove far too much for Kerry.
Tomas O Se has always had the better of Diarmuid Connolly? How many times have they played against each other in the championship?
Dublin are going to fucking smash Kerry.
spot on…I’d say probably once…its really clutching at straws…A lot of people forget Connolly dropping out to half forward near the end of second half in AI final in 2011 was a turning point…he was involved in Dublin’s last 3 points that day…
I said at the time he really turned up and was counted. He has reverted back since though and does a shed load of stupid and selfish things still, every game.

yeah to me he’s a typical Vincent’s player - wants to seen as a hardman more than actually being one…But I think his workrate on and off the ball this year has been fantastic…I think with a bit of luck he could have scored the same amount of goals as Cillian o Connor…hopefully that luck will come sunday… brogan too has showed signs of running amok…again hopefully its sunday…
Do you think people underestimate Dubln ? I mean everyone keeps telling us -push up on cluxton’s kickouts, drop a man back, man mark -Macauley, Caffrey, Mcarthy etc…you only have 14 outfield players you can’t do all that… especially when the dubs forwards tackle with such intensity …when you a actually watch Dublin in the flesh and see the movement its not a simple as people suggest…they literally come from every angle…they are like rugby backs running the lines… We hear (every fuckin day) Donie Buckley is working the oracle in Mayo and Cian O Neill has Kerry primed but does anyone know who is training Dublin?..

Jim Gavin?
I really think Dublin are exciting. I think though people have got a bit more balanced with them though, which was needed. They had crazy obvious weaknesses to me, but are slowly chipping away at them. Kinda like cork and Clare in hurling.
I fully expect not to be able to make my mind up on final winners when Dublin put in a even more improved performance Sunday. Right now Mayo are slightly ahead, but only cos we saw them last.
all the ability in the world…great leader for his club but can just go missing at times at IC when most needed and always seems to be first dropped when the entire dub team have bad performance…would love to see him have a good game on sunday and get the opportunity to play in AI final after missing out on medal in 2011…
