Elon Musk

It is. Just not the way he has gone about it. I was made redundant before, Iā€™d say the company would have loved to do what Musk did but they didnā€™t and ended up in a tortrous enough (for them) engagement program over 18 months which was designed to protect employees rights. Iā€™d have thought that was fundamental to your politics tbhā€¦ Youā€™d have been on Maggie side in the miners strikes by the looks of it

Iā€™m around the corner from Google HQ and see the same. The company is life for a lot of workers who wouldnā€™t be Irish nationals. Made the furore about the co-living spaces all the more bizarre. Perfect for this demographic. But Paddy wants a 3 bed semi D so why wouldnā€™t Davor?

Billionaires/business owners should be allowed to hire and fire whenever they like according to a few lads on here, only not when it comes to them.I didnā€™t know we had so many Monty Burnā€™s posting here. But Musk rattled a few wokesters apparently so thatā€™s great.

I havenā€™t said one thing about job losses other than itā€™s what happens with the capitalism you guys celebrate everyday.

We tried killing Maggie multiple times fyi.

Thatā€™s the way itā€™s gone now, so long as itā€™s only wokesters that are laid off etc etc itā€™s happy days,
Leave your long established principals at the door in this new age :man_shrugging:

Pffft labour laws,who needs them.

Which labour law was broken?

The wheel always turns

Was Maggie right to shut down the mines, Fords right to decimate Cork for cheap third world labour, etc etc etc
My own family was a victim of the last one before the inevitable Cork jibe, so I know a bit about that one

Not about labour law, just not celebrating the billionaire in this situation, a bit of empathy would be nice

Iā€™ve plenty empathy. Itā€™s a shit way to lose a job and be informed about it. Musk is an attention seeker and likely did it this way for attention.

But, for me, he has the right to do it.

Of course he has, itā€™s his business and he surely knows the law.

But this thread is laughing at people losing their jobs and thatā€™s wrong, woke or right wing or whatever

Maybe the thread is, you responded to me and I certainly havenā€™t been.

I just hope its an even split between the genders.

Well in Ireland there are minimum notice periods and an onus on the employer to show they have gone through a reasonable selection process when deciding who to make redundant and keep. But maybe that happened and they arenā€™t talking about it

You can be paid in lieu of notice I believe (open to correction on that).

Iā€™ve no idea regarding the reasonable selection. Iā€™d imagine the definition of ā€œreasonableā€ would be key there

Does this apply here though. There is a difference between being dismissed and made redundant.

Swinging and missing wildlyā€¦ You giddy about the rubby today or wha?
