They’ve been proven wrong so emphatically you’d think it would humble them. Resorting to cheering on Sportswashing entities and Monarchist clubs to lessen some of the pain. It’s fascinating to watch.

Yes. Spanish clubs eat English ones when it matters in Europe.

Alonso would be a real united type appointment. Totally unproven/flash in the pan sentimental choice

Who would be a Klopp/Guardiola type appointment?

Stop mentioning klopp in the same breadth as guardiola.

Liverpool are obsessed with history because they’ve won so little in 30 years.

As I pointed out If Alonso didn’t play for Liverpool he’d have no chance of the job.

If he wins the Bundesliga with a team other than Bayern he’ll become a front runner for every big job in Europe

It’s a bit unfair to Klopp alright to have Guardiola up in the same bracket. He’d be the nearest challenger to be fair.

Yeah which is why Alonso is being constantly mentioned in connection with the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich jobs. I suppose if he hadn’t played for either of those teams they wouldn’t consider him either.

The German league is a joke league. Nobody takes it seriously.

There’s none. Theres only two good managers in the world. Soccer is like the club gaa manager circuit now. Lads getting 80 a session and mileage and being exposed as spoofers after 6 months

It seems a bit reductionist to say there are only two good managers in the world. I agree with you there are no Klopp/Guardiola type appointments to be made. There are no managers of big teams around Europe who are constantly getting their team to punch above their weight at European level and also have a Shankly type messiah personality. There are no managers who have revolutionised tactics with a team of the world’s most gifted players.

Alonso however is by far the standout manager who appears to be the next big thing in European football. A legendary player but he also appears to have the smarts of a great coach. None of that is surprising for anybody who watched him as a player, it’s completely expected. He always seemed a cut above intellectually and had a Zen complex about him.

Ah he’s far too early in his career to be sure he’s not a lamps/Stevie g/Roy Keane. Hard to be a great manager having been a top player and he seems a bit too nice and not enough of an intense weirdo to do a pep on it.

Lamps and Stevie were thick as planks intellectually and also completely unsuited personality wise to be managers, particularly Gerrard with his constant negging, actually Lamps was worse because he literally had nothing beyond Brexiters thinking he was smart because he went to private school and votes Tory.

Keane has a sort of street intelligence to him and that worked for him for a short while but he’s a man of the 1980s, a bit like Martin O’Neill. He comes from a time when raaaaarrrrr made you a good football manager in England, and he always ends up falling out with people.

Alonso, like Arteta and Guardiola, is streets ahead of any of the above intellectually. The British generation of footballers who came along after the labour movement collapsed were both stupid intellectually and lacked the deep sense of justice that the likes of Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Charlton, Robson, Clough, Taylor and to a lesser extent Ferguson had. English footballers of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s were red top tabloid readers. Anybody who wasn’t was automatically a poof.

Why do you think Alonso is so smart?

Ancellotti and who?
