More violence now in Seville Spurs match. We were informed by ITV’s Robbie Earle that the police were very heavy handed. Funny how over 100,000 Celtic fans were in Seville didn’t have any problem with the police. I wonder how many more instances there will have to be before individual clubs or English clubs collectively are excluded from Europe.
Couldn’t agree more Piper. A ban similar to what they received after Liverpool fans murdered 39 Italians in Brussels is needed. The way things have gone over the last 2 nights suggests that it wont be long before somebody is killed. Time UEFA nipped it in the bud and banned all English teams for 5 or 6 seasons
It’s getting ridiculous. The same clubs are coming out with the same excuses about lack of segregation, heavy-handed policing after every away game in Europe. In fairness to Liverpool it hasn’t been an issue at all with them but the fear is that away trips are ruined for everyone in the competition because some teams can’t control their fans.
It willl be interesting to see how the Chelsea fans behave themselves in Spain. Do we know who Liverpool will get should they progress? That could be another game where violent scenes overshadow game.
Liverpool will play the winner of Chelsea v Valencia. There’s very bad blood between Liverpool and Chelsea so if it were to be them and Liverpool beat them again I’d expect war.
I’d say more chance of violence if Liverpool drew Valencia. English clubs seem to be restricing their violence for outside of England. I am sure it would all be the fault of the police anyway though.
i know you’re only sayin that to get a rise out of me.
I obviously dont agree with you becasue, for one, Liverpool have been in many different european cities in recent times with no hint of trouble caused. And secondly, a lot of the spanish like liverpool because of the strong spanish contingent in the team. You have no basis for the point you made.
I honestly believe there ia more chance of violence at Liverpool Valencia than Liverpool Chelea. How many fights have there been in England this year? Very few I suspect. Yet look at the thuggish behaviour we witnessed on our television screens this week. Of course its all the fault of the police.
This isn’t intended to be nitpicking but I presume you’re not counting Xabi Alonso in there - a proud Basque who would neither be loved by the rest of Spain nor would have any affection for the Spaniards himself. You’re really only left with Reina and Arbeloa, a goalkeeper for Valencia’s local rivals and a full back. Hardly enough for Valencia fans to have much liking for Liverpool.
I have discussed Heysel at length in the past and Liverpool fans did not murder the Juventus fans - the fault lay primarily at the hands of the organisers for playing the game in such a wreck of a stadium and not having sufficient segregation of the fans
The stadium was hardly adequate but 39 people would not have died had Liverpool hooligans hell bent on violence not charged at the Juventus section knocking down a wall in the process and crushing innocent football supporters.
Interested to hear what your interpretation of ‘innocent fans’ is. Does it mean that the Juventus fans stood there minding their own business while Liverpool fans charged at them? That’s not what happened
Both sets of fans were giving as good as they got
Liverpool fans charged at Juventus fans causing the wall to collapse which ended up killing the supporters.
It was not the intention of Liverpool fans to kill anyone. You cannot call them murderers
When you say ‘giving as good as they got’ what do you mean?
Most sets of association football supporters bait each other. Few charge en masse at opposing supporters in order to physically attack them. That’s what hundreds of Liverpool supporters did that day and it’s not in dispute. Their intention was to attack the Juve fans so because of that intent, even though they ended up crushing them under a wall, I consider that murder.
I recall Liverpool organising some lame attempt to apologise when they drew Juve in 2005. The apology was nearly two decades too late and the Juve asupporters at Anfield that night were quite within their rights to turn their backs to it.
Liverpool fans showed a lack of care for human life. They need not have wanted to killed the Juventus fans to be guilty of murder - wanting to cause serious injury, which resulted in death, is sufficient for a murder charge.
So enlighten us Farmer - when the Liverpool fans charged at the wall separating them from the Juventus fans what exactly were they trying to achieve?
I mean there was considerable abuse from sets of supporters
Liverpool fans did charge yes, but that would happen in numerous matches if there wasn’t segregation as we see today. There was chicken wire seperating both sets of fans for fuck sake.
And I repeat - Liverpool fans may have intended pysical harm but that does not constitute them as murderers. If it did then every person who gets into a physical fight is a murderer
Well Rock get your facts rightfirst - Liverpool fans didn’t charge the wall. They charged at the Juve fans causing them to retreat towards the wall which caused the wall to collapse
As for your first point I don’t agree. There needs to be some sort of intention for a murder charge to be brought
No there is a difference between getting into a physical fight which kills someone and getting into a physical fight which doesn’t kill someone. Please tell me you can see that difference.
It’s not for you to agree or not - it’s for the law to decide. The intention does not need to be kill. It is enough if the intention is to cause serious injury.
