Shocking. Polish football is in a terrible place.
A lot of feenyins on that Linfield team.
oh there would be yeah - Billy fenlon is running the place there
lads on tonight
what are yere thoughts?
@Rocko give me a dig out here but how are the slovenian champions unseeded - lok i know Celje have a brutal record in europe but the likes of maribor have been getting to group stages and beat the Hapoel beer shevas clujs celtics regulalry so to see them unseeded suprised me going on a country coefficient
dundalk are in rag order lads - i cant see any way they would be technically good enough to beat a team of mariborâs ability ( im bigging up cleje here) - slovan made clean shit of this dundalk side in tallaght last year and they arent right at all this year really
the betting is interesting - Celje were 4/7 on monday and were 10/11 last night - now unless something is wrong there for me they would be overwhelming favourites really
RTE 6pm
the single legs will throw up funny stuff tho
Dinamo Brest dumped out Astana 6-3 last night⌠thatâs a massive shock
Slovenia starts this weekend, so lack of match practice should give 1 advantage to Dundalk
Dundalk been very poor since restart, hard to make a strong case for them (one off match favours Dundalk/underdogs)
i think Rovers are our ( cc @Bandage) only chance of progression really in Europe this year as they should beat a crowd from Finland - but again the lack of a decent finisher is really impacting them - Bradley cannot seem to sign a striker who will start games and score goals - you have farrugia burke byrne playing great stuff but they need a gary twigg character up there - Gaffney isnt right at all i think and aaron greene is meh tbh
bohs are away at whatever the latest version of Videoton call themselves in Hungary - no chance i think as a semi pro side hauling themselves over there - derry could do something in lithuania maybe
Sorry mate you will need to put explanations that so the likes of @tazdedub and @Aertel220 know what you are talking about
Maybe if i start slowly with a reference to âHarvey Elliotâ and âourâ future?
They changed the rule in 2019 so that the country coefficient is less relevant. But it still wouldnât have made much of a difference because Maribor were sort of flying the flag on their own.
It used to be that the club coefficient was =
Club Points (5 Year Total) + 20% of Country Coefficient (Also a 5 Year Total)
Since then, the ranking has been =
Club Points (5 Year Total) OR
20% of Country Coefficient (5 Year Total)
So, instead of Celje getting a boost from Maribor onto their ranking (but their ranking is almost nil anyway), they just get the higher of their ranking or 20% of the country (which is higher).
Long story short:
Slovenia have 3 teams in Europe. Their country coefficient is based on the average of those (which cuts Maribor down). Then the seeding number is 20% of that. So unless you have a few teams performing well, it wonât save a new team from a below average country.
More of a GAA man myself but Iâd like to think Iâm knowledgeable enough on domestic soccer matters. Your own club Shamrock Rovers have a great chance of a first league title since the Michael Oâ Neill days. Dundalk do appear to be entering into a slight decline but it would be great to see them beat the Slovenian crowd and guarantee themselves a Europa Play-off at least.
Dundalk going well here
Are Man Utd playing tonight?
Dundalk settled in nicely
0-0 after 22 mins.
What channel?
RTE 2
He seems to think Man Utd are playing so heâll probably turn it off fairly quickly
Sport gets a pass.
Dundalk concede a calamity of a goal just on the verge of half time
