The majority of the fans of these teams are glory hunters so it will be interesting to see how they react to losing or drawing most weeks
Strange that you’d single out the Glazers and Daniel Levy.
There are people of the Christian faith and the Muslim faith involved in this plan as well.
That’s a lovely mix of metaphors there mate.
It all started when Rock of Gibraltar beat Hawk Wing in the Guineas…
I had thought that Agnelli/the Agnellis/whatever ruling dynasty heads Juventus these days were to a large degree the brainchild of the 36 team/10 match Champions League proposal that had been heavily mooted of late?
Was this not in fact the case or what has prompted a change of heart?
I suppose Juventus are struggling badly to qualify for next season’s Champions League, so maybe they thought now is the time to strike and get the whole competition cancelled?
I would be in favour of a European Super league if it included Celtic, but not Rangers, just to see the absolute meltdowns
You defo need galatasaray in there as a proper old school Millwall type away trip.
I can’t understand the ire tbh. So what if there’s a breakaway league. I’d have zero interest anyway, but the premier League management team getting vexed is understandable but utter hypocrisy.
I would argue that to make it interesting, they’d need promotion and relegation, but if the status quo was a European super League, and owners said, hang on lads, we’re going to play Stoke on a wet Tuesday night instead, they’d be taken away by white coated people.
I had the same thought earlier…
When I see stuff like this, I’m sort of reminded of Louise Mensch’s appearance on Have I Got News For You, when she said something along the lines of: “If you buy a take away coffee, you can’t be against the worst excesses of capitalism.”
What Gary Neville didn’t address in his little rant yesterday was that this is the logical conclusion of the process started with the advent of the Premier League in 1992/93.
The biggest clubs have always had the cards stacked in their favour and none more so than Man U over the first 20 years of the EPL. Gary wasn’t complaining when they were plundering the best talent from other English clubs because they had the deepest pockets and augmented the 7 league titles won in the 104 years since the foundation of the football league in 1888/89 (albeit Man U weren’t founded until 1992) with 13 in the first 20 years of the EPL era.
Gary even had a pop at little old Tottenham. Tottenham served their purpose when they they were able to plunder Teddy Sheringham, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov and will again if they can lure Harry Kane to Old Trafford which Gary has been agitating for.
The major problem as I see it is local fans, that have built these clubs. The owners won’t need them now with zillions rolling in from Japan, Beijing and New York.
It is completely the PLs own fault for allowing any Tom, Dick or Harry to own their teams
I was thinking about that but they’ll still need them for the “product” more than anything else. They need full stadiums when they are being showcased on TV
The owners don’t give a flying fcuk about them anyway.
I’m just not surprised to see the Glazers and Levy involved.
Here’s the grand plan.
