After hearing the passionate condemnation of the super league just there by the Neviller and gobby Carra I am fully behind the new proposed super league.

Coach Klopp. A man of integrity and character. A Tour de France here.

Nevillle talking about his 11 year career at Sky. A company man.

On the Super League - interesting that the Government/PM says it will do everything it can to stop the proposals…

Raises the question of whether it can actually do anything.

Simpler time to act might have been when these teams were all bought up.
Ultimately private companies acting legally - cant see competition issue in banning relegation. Indeed it is UEFA trying to impose restriction on right of players to choose teams if they want to play in internationals…

So what could Govt do?
Some interesting replies in thread…

Govt could say it would immediately list ESL as “of national interest” to be offered free to air under ‘96 Broadcasting Act, thus greatly reduce TV revenues.

Windfall tax on clubs or transfers?

Legislation to allow fans right to buy clubs?

Within the 12 clubs, four are key - Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona. If one of those pulls out, the whole thing collapses.

And as long as PSG but particularly Bayern Munich are still on the outside, there remains a very good chance of it not getting off the ground.

They might have underestimated how small a fan base Chelsea, Man City and Spurs have as well.

They’d have better off targeting Ajax, Celtic and rangers. Those do clubs anyway.

Would they not be the 9 or 10 of the most indebted clubs on the planet ?

I think that’s the logic.

In debt but also highest revenue. The 12 there Bayern, PSG and Dortmund have the highest revenue

Like nobody really tunes in to watch Man City play Spurs but rangers v Celtic with two good teams would sell subscriptions. It seems the idea is fairly narrow minded.

They could do lots of things that remove what a football club needs to function (work visas, policing of games, broadcasting) but it’s a dangerous game to play with any private business as a precedent is set for all businesses.

I thought Liverpool was more than a business

I don’t think some lads here realise how a global brand works. Tribal city rivalries are all but dead and count for little anyway in tbe global game.
