Chelsea I read recently are now the second most popular English club worldwide. Over 100 million worldwide fans with huge followings in Russia and Africa.
The biggest problem is fans outside of Europe, mainly Asia. Its always entertaining to read the comments under the offical man utd fb page after a defeat. Nearly all Indian lads says they played well or they now hate United and support city etc. Tv rights in those countries are the new gold rush. Sky/BT aren’t going to pay too much more as they know the public over hear won’t stump up more for an increase in subscriptions particularly when you have IPTV saving us a fortune
It’s not show friends. It’s show bidniz.
Hapes of lads sitting in Lagos supping pints of Guinness cheering on the Blues against Spurs for the lunchtime derby. Chelsea are huge. This will be a bitter disappointment to those regulars too.
That will come as a shock to most Liverpool fans. At least the likes of Man City or Chelsea never lied about what they were all about
Perez is currently on Spanish TV outlining his views. At least he’s admitting it’s all about the money.
Himself and Agnelli seem obsessed with the notion that young people aren’t interested in football anymore
The important thing for them is to be in control of what happens and to make sure there’s no financial blip from not qualifying for Europe for a season or two and no relegation. If you were actually designing a super league there’s no way you’d have three from London and three relatively close together in Manchester and Liverpool. You certainly wouldn’t have it entirely made up of three countries.
Once they are in control they can do all sorts of shit. You could see a club from Russia added in, one from UAE, one from China, one from the states etc etc
You could definitely see Man City vs say Barcelona being played in New York or Tokyo or whatever.
A few years down the line, they’d be wondering why don’t they move Man City to a city with more of a population altogether. One that will build them a stadium and pay them a lot of money to relocate. Basically the NFL model
Steve Parish talking a lot of sense on Newsnight here
We know well enough pal. Liverpool were hours from bankruptcy pre FSG.
I’d love Sky and Gary Neville to be as exercised about the 6500 lives lost in Qatar, the slavery and the corruption and bribery endemic in world football
Chelsea have been the most successful club in England since Abramovich took over back in the summer of 2003. Footix fans the world over flock to the clubs with the most success. Footix are a fickle lot.
I will say one thing here - I went to a lot of football in UK in the early to mid 90s . It was relatively cheap to stand in grounds and the crowds generally had a significant number of younger men between 18 & 25 .
In November 2019 I was in Manchester through work and went to see City play Shaktar in UCL . They crowd was largely middle aged male and relatively small numbers of younger lads . There was approx 45,000 there and tickets were relatively reasonable at £25
Sure the Manchester City fans on here turn a blind eye to all that and the fact that their club is owned and bankrolled by the Qataris.
Man City is UAE, PSG is the Qataris
This has been a welcome distraction from the bat flu.
Unfortunately European soccer has an infestation of greedy cunts
The western economy since the 50s has been largely fuelled by oil from the gulf . In the main nobody batted an eyelid and ploughed on .
In the last decade these same gulf states have ploughed money in to soccer clubs and people are losing their shit
Your country has been responsible for more deaths, wars famine and misery throughout history and yet you’re still a proud English man.
They’re all the same. The slave labour trade is as bad if not worse in the UAE than Qatar. Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in slave labour camps toiling on building sites for the Sheikhs ever day in 100 degree heat in the desert.
Perez is on fire at the moment.
I wasn’t disagreeing with your point and have made the same one many times on here
