European Super League Super Thread

No my logic is if you sell your house to the highest bidder you lose the right to complain about what they do to the house.

This is it in a nutshell … it seems the posters irked here like their corruption to be on the terms they want - how dare others do their own thing.

Your cartel is not fair as it damages my cartel.

I don’t know how it will impact on kids playing the game. How has Dublin’s dominance impacted kids playing Gaelic football in Leitrim? What I do know is Dublin’s dominance over Gaelic football is a bad thing for the sport of Gaelic football as a whole, and it will be a very bad thing if it continues. If Dublin win the next 10 All-Irelands, where does that leave the sport?

And there is far more chance of Dublin’s dominance subsiding than there would be of the dominance of the cartel of Super League clubs ever doing so, the dominance of the Super League clubs is forever if it happens, it’s literally the rules of the competition. Club football will be a closed shop forever.

Your logic is crude trolling because that’s all you have.

When you allow Russian oligarchs use a football club to clean money , when you award a WC to a desert and whose rulers are murderers, when you turn a blind eye to back handers, when you inflate international tournaments to fleece fans, when your high ranking officials are all on the take, when players can be owned by third parties, when diving is part of the game, when oil money buys trophies, when yank millionaires buy clubs as play things to saddle clubs with debt…

Greed is the knife and the scars run deep.

Football has been dead a long time.

Best to just let the top clubs at it as a form of sports entertainment - if lads are serious here about greed you need to rip up every footballing organization in the world and start again. It’s endemic in the game.

This is the choice I’d like to see. These clubs need to play enough games to sell them. If they are expelled from their own leagues they perish before it really gets off the ground. The unfortunate thing is that the best players in the world all play for these clubs. But a super league with only 12 teams would be only 22 matches. Or 33 if they went an extra game each, in which case they turn up the boredom from year one. They need some form of compromise, or to entice another 6 decent club s into it.
The games themselves would of course be fucking box office for the first year, before previously ‘strong’ clubs like both Milans, Athletico and even possibly United get turned into European equivalents of Burnley or Southampton.

you could break the invisible barrier to the elite with investment - chelsea done it, leicester done it and man city done it.

Leicester scared the shit out of them and they’ve joined together, created a mafia and pulled the ladder up.

It’s racketeering

A lot of the point is to prevent the risk of not qualifying for the Champions League so it’s very hard to see how they’ll introduce any element of risk.

Yep. Good luck getting Pogba to play for a measly 60grand a week though, or the Glazrrs to give up the 30/40mill they pull out of Utd every year. Or Klopp to drop his dental allowance. And just think of all the hairdressers and tattoo artists that have to adjust their pricing back down again.

I’ve learned a lot about @Thomas_Brady this morning - yesterday he was dead set against this but he’ll support it to the death now just to spite @Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy .

@Thomas_Brady is even attacking his club captain James Milner now.

What are sky paying the premier league 400m for if the top 6, and the global audience, are not watching? The league and the money it needs would fall apart without them … Who’d watch La Liga without Real or Barca? There’d be no global demand for tv rights… And they could very easily invent other franchises… or tempt others away. The ball is truly with these clubs if they stick together… a big if tho.

I’ll give you a response later on my TRUE feelings, I dont have capacity presently.

Sure they’ve said they dont want risk. A league to determine playoff places followed by NFL style play offs. Win win win win. And less than 10 years til an announcement of a Chinese team, a couple of US teams and one from somewhere palatable in Africa maybe. Russia and Brazil are too autocratic and unstable politically for them to sink a franchise into them at the moment.

This is true. It would also kill the finances of current leagues. But this league will get fuckall money unless they can guarantee at least 38 games a season per team, probably more. If Amazon or apple want to sell this by game then they need multiples. Playing each other 4 times the first year would kill it. This is the biggest leverage the other teams have. If it goes ahead normal leagues are fucked anyway, so why not go out and try to use the only weapon they have at present? Put simply, would you like to fight them in the people’s park or snipe at them on the internet from behind your printer?

You demonstrably don’t think so because you’ve been posting regularly and often passionately about it on this forum for the last 13 years.

No. Football is dead but being a Liverpool supporter meant that it was more than football for him so he’s ok.

They’ll be in Moscow before they’ll be in New York IMO. They had the World Cup in Russia sure. The Chinese consortium will have the backing of the CCP, the Russian consortium will have the backing of Moscow. It will be an extension of the power plays over the Olympics and the like.
