Did you unwire the pump?
No; I was already pissed off enough to investigate any further
That’s the job. These things don’t last. Buy chape enough, yearly clean out and spruce up, and have a replacement ready in the shed.
The engineer was the fucking problem. We were meant to have a soak pit but he did the percolation test in the wrong place. Needed a pumped system then
Yeah unfortunately these pumps are a balls.Youd hope to get at least 5 years out of them but it’s unlikely. At least they’re easy enough to change.
So the pump ran ok when it was out, but tripped when it was submerged?
That doesn’t make a whole pile of sense to me.
Is there a float switch in play here?
Yes that’s how these work. The float goes so high, pump cuts in
So how do you explain it running when you took it out and tripping when you put it back in?
I didn’t say it ran. I said the isolation switch didn’t trip the RCD when it was switched on and the pump was removed. I’ll try the float switch with the pump removed and see what happens.
I had jumped the gun here somewhat. There was a 32v 3 Pin plug and socket in the tank above the level of the water. Swapped it out for a new one and the job is Oxo.
What’s a 32v 3 Pin plug and socket when it’s at home?
I oiled all the internal and external door locks and handles/catches a couple of weeks ago with bicycle chain oil. Something I never did before in my life.
Google told me that was the best oil to use.
Jasus, it makes a huge difference to the general smoothness of the handles and key movement. It’s pure sexy now.
I’d recommend it….
16 Amp would have been loads, but sure we won’t argue about it.
Job sorted…
That sounds dodgy as fuck lad.Is it actually in the tank and not on top of it?Where did you buy the tank?
It’s cable tied to a pipe inside in the tank above the waterline.
Got it from Fogarty Concrete in Templederry
I’m no sparky but that doesn’t sound right at all.
Should be an isolation switch at the tank but sure they probably just put in the plug instead.
Lads, if im getting a new rad in the attic, should it go under the window? Builder suggesting there but id have thought heat went straight out the window? Cc @FatChops @Gman @anyoneelse
Ta
somewhat the opposite effect than what you may think. I’m no expert and its a long time since I was studying the real reason why, but its along the lines of the heat from the radiator pushing up against whatever cold air is coming through the window causes the hot air to circulate better in the room. You would generally position a radiator in the coldest part of a room. Trust your builder!
