Fannings Fab 50

U2 spoiled One for me when they did that god awful version with Mary J Bilge.

It is a very good song, but Bad is better. And my favourite U2 song is A Sort of Homecoming.

Joe Duffy today claimed that U2 in Croke Park was one of the highlights of 2009, somebody needs to put that Ballyfermot cunt in his place.*

*I actually enjoyed the rest of his show.

it won gig of the year on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show as well

Irish radio is gone to shite.

I just looked at the final list of this.

Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon at number 2?:eek::eek:

:mad:Dreadful stuff.

A truly uninspiring list. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars being particularly shite. I enjoyed Elbow’s show in Vicar Street during the year but I don’t really understand what all the fuss is about.

A lot of people who whinge about it wouldn’t dream of taking 2 minutes of their time to actually vote in it, like everything else in this country, the people tend to end up getting what they deserve.

Voting open for this years Fab 50
Oasis didn’t “push back the musical frontiers” so to speak, but they worked with the basics of rock n’ roll - Noel Gallagher’s superb ear for a tune, loud guitars and an unrivalled singer and frontman in Liam Gallagher. As Flano said they got a whole generation of kids into music and there has been nothing to remotely match them since. I can’t remember who said it originally but they took the best elements of all the great British guitar bands from the previous thirty years and moulded them into one.

Definitely Maybe is simply the ultimate rock n’ roll album.
Morning Glory is pretty much as good as it as to make no difference.

They also blew a good two albums worth of material on b-sides in the 94-97 period which could have formed the basis of the next three albums. I would also disagree about the later albums being shit. Be Here Now is a superb album, just a bit over-produced and long. Don’t believe the Truth is also excellent. The other three albums still all have a core of about 4 or 5 great songs.
Couldn’t agree more on - especially on Be Here Now.
