Post your favourite memories here.
I always liked the way he sat in the front row for 9.00 mass in St Anne’s church in Portmarnock whilst the mass going squad members sat in the middle or towards the back of the church.
It was his way of showing them who was boss
Always had a kind word for my mother when they passed on walks around the coast. A gentleman.
Seemed like a decent sort-got a limited team to the Euros. Thanks and good luck.
Correct decision.

He will always and forever be a freeman of Portmarnock
Grazie Giovanni
That’s a beautiful memory, Taz, and well articulated.
I will fondly remember when he used to gather the family around to sing.

RIP in peace sweet prince
Thank god the senile old cunt is gone.
I’ll miss the cheeky little Italian scamp with the glint in his eye and he waffling away in pidgin English.
How he showed that fuck Andy Reid who was boss. Trap was the boss and he let them know it. Thanks Gio.
FAO of @Mac, smashing thread title, @Bandage will approve.
Good luck Trap, did a very good job for the first two campaigns.
Poor old Manuela must be gutted too, lest we forget her valuable contribution.
Despicable.
Farewell Gio.
Let those who belittle his achievements never forget that only 3 managers have overseen our Qualification for major tournaments since 1969.
It was time to go but he made a valuable contribution to the Irish association football team and will be remembered fondly. I have a particularly fond memory of his sideline header in Paris and the roar from the Irish support that followed it.
Didn’t seem to care a\s much when his wages were slashed by Denis O B and co. Hard to blame him for that really, he remains an icon of our times in that sense. With a bit of luck the next cunt will genuinely give a fuck.
This thread looks like following a fairly predictable pattern
He’s left us in a terrible state with team morale at an all time low. But he’ll be enjoying his retirement in Italy’s premiere Alzheimer’s clinic when the FAI goes bankrupt in a few years.
The highlight of his tenure was undoubtedly the qualification for the Euros. But we struggled to get out off a pathetically weak group and were blessed to get Estonia in the play offs. We made an absolute show of ourselves out there as this dinosaur was exposed for what he was.
He should have walked then. But he knew he’d never get such a well paid part time gig again. He then predictably served up one of our worst qualifying performances ever.
He leaves us in the gutter, good riddance to him.

How did we struggle to get out of the group when we’d secured second place with a game to spare?

Yes, because team moral was incredibly high after Mick eventually walked away after Saipan, Stan left us in fine fettle for Gio’s arrival as well. Team moral, would you ever fuck off.
