Italians can be so melodramatic
You never see as many chippers, kebab shops, Chinese fast food across Europe as you do in Ireland.
Maybe life is slower paced and they have more time for cooking and more health conscious. You drive past a chipper during the day in Ireland and they have lunch time specials for secondary school kids, 3 in ones and other deals.
I’d have a little obsession with Italian food. You would go to restaurants in Verona or somewhere and you’d be sitting in small room with tables everywhere. Concrete floors and maybe a basic table cloth with a small candle. The fella eating behind you would be almost on top of you. Usually family run with one waiter maybe. You’d nearly eat your fucking fingers the food is so good and it’s as cheap as chips. We haven’t a notion about cuisine in Ireland. It’s sickening.

The Germans are big into their street food aren’t they? Our chipper tradition has a strong Italian influence, although I suppose that’s more a British hangover than actual Italian. We do have too many I’d agree though.
Have we added anything to world cuisine besides coleslaw and chips ?

The Irish were a lot more redeeming when they were a bunch of navvies.
The Belgians love their frites . Except whatever oil they use it sits in your stomach a lot longer than Irish chipper chips which is saying something…
I did some research into this a few years back. Here’s a few notes I had:

They primarily came from Casalattico and Picinisco, two villages whose population stands at less than 2,000 inhabitants between them today. However, 8,000 Irish-Italians still have ancestors in Casalattico, and each August, throngs of Irish-Italians descend on the village for a celebration of these Irish-Italians links

Yeah they are big into Bratwurst or pretzels. Not exactly nutritious either but markedly better than some lad eating a quarter pounder, curry chips and a side of onion rings washed down with a litre of Fanta.
