Fidel Castro

Not many lefties in Europe moved to Cuba. A lot who wanted to work hard went to America . Says it all . Time to grow up SIDNEY .

A very childish message, my friend.

A spell in the Cuban education system would have benefitted you.

It would certainly have increased your literacy, which isn’t currently of a high standard.

I got a good practical education pal , academically and in life . You know one that prepared me for life. He was a vile fucking bigoted dictator . Easy for a middle class pseudo socialist to lionise him from Ireland .

Easy for a barely literate simpleton like yourself who knows fuck all about what he’s talking about to vilify him, pal.

He didn’t hold free elections, he murdered dissenters , he criminalised gays, he banned free worship of religion . Now if objecting to that makes me a simpleton , I am proud to be a simpleton . Again , you really need to grow up.

whats not to love? don’t forget the basket case economy, an ever more failed version of Russia, Citizens not allowed to leave and held at gunpoint, but hey they were all healthy and could read
North Korea with a beard and a cigar :joy:

It’s pretty funny seeing the left giving Fidel all these tributes today. Most (except Trudeau for some reason) will parse their tributes with an “on balance” he was “positive”. When it’s a socialist we have to be balanced.

  • Castro proportionally imprisoned far more of his political opponents than any other regime in Latin America

  • murdered tens of thousands of Cubans. Lefties loooove to attack Maggie Thatcher (see Corbyn) for being chummy with Pinochet, but Castro is absolved.

Cuba Archive President Maria Werlau says the total number of victims could be higher by a factor of 10. Project Vice President Armando Lago, a Harvard-trained economist, has spent years studying the cost of the revolution and he estimates that almost 78,000 innocents may have died trying to flee the dictatorship. Another 5,300 are known to have lost their lives fighting communism in the Escambray Mountains (mostly peasant farmers and their children) and at the Bay of Pigs. An estimated 14,000 Cubans were killed in Fidel’s revolutionary adventures abroad, most notably his dispatch of 50,000 soldiers to Angola in the 1980s to help the Soviet-backed regime fight off the Unita insurgency.

Castro ruthlessly exiled, imprisoned or exiled his political opponents post 1959, many of whom were supportive of his revolution and grew disillusioned after he failed to deliver the democracy he promised (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/26/world/americas/fidel-castro-dies.html?_r=0).

People like Sidney will claim to dislike a benign Royal family in the UK because of hereditory privelage, but will support a guy like Castro who handed power to his brother. The same Castro who lounged around with a “private island, a yacht, some 20 homes across the island, a personal chef, a full-time doctor, and a carefully selected and prepared diet.” (http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-secret-life-of-fidel-castro-1433715948).

If it wasn’t for the fact that Castro was a “socialist”, people like Trudeau would be remaining tight lipped about him today. The left just love to talk about US hypocrisy but refuse to take a look in the mirror.

I heard the grub was cat there

Lots of countries don’t hold free elections, and some that claim to can’t even organise them properly.

Cuba does not have the death penalty.

Cuba decriminalised homosexuality 14 years before this country did, pal.

Cuba prohibits discrimination based on religious belief.

There are people on this forum who wish to ban the free worship of religion. Strangely enough, they’re ones I’d most expect to be anti-Castro.

_In the wake of his overthrow of Cuban President Fulgencio Batista in 1959, supporters of the old government were sent before summary courts and at least 582 were shot by firing squads over two years. _

Estimates of executions under Castro’s 50-year rule run into the thousands, with monitors warning of unfair trials, arbitrary imprisonment and extrajudicial executions.

Castro responded by insisting that “revolutionary justice is not based on legal precepts, but on moral conviction”.

_As the one-party system came into force, independent newspapers were closed and homosexuals, priests and others viewed as a threat were herded into labour camps for “re-education”. _

Censorship and repression spread, with fans of American rock ‘n’ roll among those targeted. Freedom of expression, religion, association, assembly, movement and the press were denied.

How dare he vilify a dictator.

Not great.

Lobster dinners for 5 dollars was the highlight. I ate an unnatural amount of lobster over these.

Lobster and cans of Bucannero beer.

Who’s “he” pal?

Is this another case of you imagining people being censored as they have their comments published in a national newspaper?

I am talking about @Ashman and your response to him. The left’s pathetic attempts to try and bring “balance” to Castro’s legacy just because he fits under their political umbrella is disgraceful and pure hypocrisy.

Trudeau’s statement was an embarrassment from a Western leader.

I’m now off to watch the rugby and college football so will reply to your deflections you’re probably googling for at the moment tomorrow.

You must be seething that Cuba didn’t turn out like freedom-loving countries which the US constantly interfered in, like Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Colombia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq and Afghanistan…

Down with healthcare!

Down with education!

Go imperialism!

A place 50 years behind Cuba is

Have you anything better than whattaboutery ??

there is savage poverty there, but at least they can sign their own name

Cuban healthcare is shit. You and other dictatorship disciples are championing every citizen of Cuba having equal access to a 1950s healthcare system.
Bizarre carry-on but not unexpected.

Twas a gas ould spot all the same. One of the fellows in our group landed a local lass and went back to her ‘gaff’. She made him sit in a chair outside the bedroom before waking up her grandfather and his brother…who had to give up the bed for a few hours.

His coordination skills were tested strongly that night… trying to keep a grip of your wallet whilet making love to a carribean lass is no mean feat.
