It’s very unlikely. Serbia would have to come 2nd in their group. Then Semi final stage is only real possible meeting. Serbia will have the winners of Mexico’s group in Last 16, Croatia will have to beat Spain at some stage I think.
Semis at the earliest. The earliest any team from Groups A-D can meet any team from Groups E-H is in a semi-final.
The way the draw works, there will be two quarter-finalists from groups A and/or B, two from C and/or D, two from E and/or F, and two from G and/or H.
There will be two semi-finalists from Groups A-D, and two from E-H.
Therefore it’s impossible for, say Brazil, Germany and England to all make the semis.

Just caught up on the second half. Croatia gave a masterclass in patient accurate pressing and thoroughly deserved everything they got from the game. Argentina coach gradually morphed into an extra from Eastenders. Been a fan of this Croatian team for a while and would love to see them go deep into the tournament.

The former Yugoslavia is a bit of an exception but they were never really full Communist bloc members. But none of them have reached the last 16 of a World Cup since 1998.
I think Ukraine in 2006 are the only former communist bloc team to reach the last 16 of a World Cup since 1998, until Croatia and Russia this year? Actually no, Slovakia did too in 2010.
A good few have reached the World Cup itself but they’ve mostly gone out in the first round - Croatia 2002, 2006 and 2014, Serbia 2010, Bosnia 2014, Poland 2002 and 2006, Slovenia 2002 and 2010.
The spitting up of countries is no doubt a factor too.
