Film Review Thread aka the mbb spoiler alert thread

Don’t think the “Good Films” or “Upcoming Movies” threads adequately cover this area.

[movie]American Sniper (tt2179136)[/movFoxcatcher (tt1100089)e]Foxcatcher[/movie]

I have seen American Sniper and Foxcatcher of late.

I enjoyed American Sniper, Bradley Cooper annoys me but in fairness to him he put in a very good performance in this. The portrayal of Chris Kyle in this seems to be very much in contention going by an article in The Guardian recently. I have began to dislike movies of this genre - US war on terror in the middle east - after seeing such rubbish as Jarhead and a few others which titles escape me at the moment but this was an upturn for the books.
A solid 8/10

Foxcatcher didn’t really impress me. Slow, boring and not a lot going on really. Carell has been getting rave reviews for this but I didn’t think he was anything special, probably more that it was a different role for him than his usual comic efforts. I did think Mark Ruffalo was excellent however. 2 hours and 20 minutes can be quite tough to sit through with this.
5/10

Stay away from Fury so. It’s WW2 but still along the lines of good old American patriotism and willingness of one tank to take on 10,000 Germans.

Good thread. Hadn’t seen the counselor watched it last night. Disappointed with it, thought it be much better as I’m a big fan of Scott. Fasbender was good though, thought the womens roles should have been reversed to suit both actreses. 6/10

I echo those sentiment a truly bag of shite
I hate these American hero films such as White House down and that other bollox film of similar ilk with Gerard butler taking on a million terrorists to save America and the White House and the president no wonder those American fuckwits are so brainwashed

Thought Foxcatcher was good
Theory of everything was rubbish
Imitation Game was watchable
Unbroken was good

Good, i think i’ll go to American Sniper. I like all those type of films focussing on the Middle East. Lone Survivor was very good as was Zero Dark Thirty. I have not seen Jarhead and don’t intend to. I try where possible to only watch stuff that has got good reviews.

Was The Dallas Buyers Club reviewed ?

In the six posts there has been on this thread no. Review it there if you’ve seen it.

Ah lovely.

I really enjoyed Birdman, it has a real old school performance heavy feel to it that leads the story to go astray at times but is never really about the story anyway. Lots of digs at Hollywood/acting in it. Keating and Norton are great as are the lesser roles. Won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I’d give it a solid 8/10.

Great to see Norton back to his best

Saw American Sniper the other day. Decent enough film if predictably over the top at times.

Went with the kids to Penguins of Madagascar, good show. Kids liked it, not too many lulls and plenty of laughs for the adults. 7/10

What GAA jerseys were on show in that Irish bar?

Watched Gone Girl last night. Although some scenes were reasonably entertaining, I found it fairly tedious to be honest and couldn’t wait for it to end although the ending, when it came, was fucking ridiculous. I did enjoy Emily whatsherface tits though and Rosamund Pike’s ass.

Pretty much sums it up for me also horsey, boring film, though Rosamund Pike makes it bearable.
Watched The Imitation Game about Alan Turing with Cumberbach the other night. Not sure why this was made to be honest, nothing new, formulaic, just a vehicle for Cumberbach and another role for Keira Knightly on her way to obscurity. Alan Turing and the story of Enigma and Ultra deserve better.

I thought Birdman was a pile of stylistic wank. 2\10

Anything is an improvement on Enigma

I fucking despise Keira Knightly, Fitzy and generally don’t watch movies if she is in it.
