If Didsy has another striker like Connolly alongside him he can drop deeper like he likes to do anyway and give an option either between the lines or dropping deeper to keep the ball moving and try to get a defender to commit

My plan is to play similar to the way we have been playing but with the width provided by just the wing backs rather than having wingers also as our wingers arenāt very good and are offering little anyway (bar Connolly and Robinson who are really strikers). The 2 up front then allows Didsy to play his natural game linking it up while still having an option in the final third with hopefully Browne also driving on from midfield
It may not work but itās worth a try with the players available

if you look at liverpool they manage to get it done with 4 at the back. The wingers still provide all the width and firminho does a similar job to what didsy would do.

Rice is tragically bad
When he was specifically played deeper I thought he has played well ā¦ Shur heās hardly played for Ireland in 2 years ā¦ they all pretty much went missing under previous regimes so heās not alone there.
I used to always laugh at calls for league of Ireland players for Ireland but i could not imagine any of Irelands current midfielders been as comfortable in a game v AC Milan as Jack Byrne was a few weeks back. Has to be given a chance in my opinion. Nothing to lose.

Grealish in particular is exactly what this side needs. A bit of creativity from the middle of the field. I think between Connolly, Idah, Parrott, etc, there is some hope up front once they mature but there is nothing happening in midfield on a creative front.
Cullen is a lovely player
I certainly dont think he is/was the worst culprit for it.
He is a solid if unspectacular holding midfielder who would be a step up on any of the other holding midfielder options we have.
