A nut in a shell.
football is in a lot better health, far less tjing, pjing and mahering
I donāt think Brehenyās articles are read by anyone under the age of 65 (aside from @thedancingbaby). Basically his readership is people who repeatedly roar ālet it inā at hurling and football matches (Iāve verified this via survey). Iām not saying his regularly rehashed opinion pieces are right or wrong, just that he seemingly trots out a lot of stuff about things having gone to the dogs now after being brilliant back in the day.
Iāll have to take your word on it, mateā¦ I couldnt read an article on football.
Silly thread.
Gaelic Football died years ago.
Itās a very very easy game to play, it used to be an enjoyable game, but to be honest I donāt think Iād be bothered with it if I was a young fella now,
I watched a game called ultimate frisbee in UL last week that was a far better spectacle
Its a chicken and egg scenario ā¦which came firstā¦ the blanket defence or the high amount of handpassesā¦the better teams will hold possession and be patient waiting for an opening in the blanket defence. .look at dubs v tyroneā¦probed down one wing , back out and across to other wing until gap appearedā¦
Yerra, Kerry were handpassing the shit out of it 40 years ago.
Fellas forgetting kerry winning multiple all irelands handpassing the ball into the net in the 70s and 80s
I dont think anyone on the forum is old enough to remember that
When played like Corofin with a variety of kicking and fast and forward handpasses it is good to watch . Many games though are full of lateral and backward hand passing which is utterly turgid .
So we all agree that Breheny is overreacting and the game is in rude health.
I am not sure this is what @anon61956325 wanted to get from this thread but it is what it is.
If you go back to the OP, it merely said ādiscussā
Your defensiveness has you all over the place here.
Donegal in 1992 hand passed the fuck out of it also. Makes up for the skills deficit in kicking the ball, it really is a basic sport skills wise.
A blanket defensiveness ?
Why would Breheny have a problem with hand passing? Would he prefer constant aimless long boots down the field?
GGA football for all its troubles is at least popular throughout the island. Like @mickee321, I was out driving on Sunday evening and the coverage on RTE radio of the final round of league games was excellent. The last few minutes, as they went from ground to ground, and promotions and relegations were decided in the dying seconds was great theatre.
Football seems to be doing alright in most counties despite the fact that they wonāt bother playing several league games in division 4. I donāt see its popularity collapsing to stick hurling levels where it will only be played in a handful of counties and they are barely able to sustain a couple of contrived divisions.
Very surprising post ā¦ Dont you hate GAA?
No, what would give you that impression?
