One of the great fitness (or anyone really) inventions. They work, and work well. Basically it’s myofascial release, massage. 5 mins a day would do some serious good for you in a couple of weeks.
It helps release the muscles making them more supple. It’s not exactly like stretching, but more of an ironing out process. Kinda like getting stones out of a harvester, the machine runes better and more efficiently without the stones caught up in the chains.
pvc pipe makes a great foam roller for legs
go hard or go home
As kev has outlined.
I had really bad posture, tight hamstrings etc - caused to a large extent by sitting all day
lordosis, kyphosis - rounded shoulders, lower back too arched
foam rolling, hip mobility, scapula exercises, wall slides - five minutes a day every day have made a huge difference in under a year - in terms of appearance it is probably best stuff I have done in the gym

Absolutely. It’s the standard starting point, mobility and stability of core and the various joints.

it was bloody heading in that direction - posture was shocking
Lads, S.I joint and piriformis issues, what do I do??
masturbate excessively 3 times a day for the next 5 days,
Stretch.
Get a tennis ball and use it as a foam roller. Work up to a sliotar.

Piriformis issues myself, bud-this is all too familiar. Sit on the edge of your bed, facing to your left, with your left heel on your right knee. Apply some downward pressure on your left knee while leaning forward from the hips. Make sure you lean forward and not to the side. You will feel a stretch on your left bum-hold it for 4 or 5 seconds then release and repeat another two times. Repeat on the other side.
Your piriformis is tightening around your sciatica due to your disk problems that I diagnosed months ago.
They’re brilliant scummy. I have one and use it every morning and every night as well as before every gym session-great for working out tightness.
serious question, why would i want to use a foam roller and when should i use it?
i have no concept in my head of it at all, is it something for warming up?

Calling @Mark Renton
Hi pal, hope you didn’t go too crazy last night. I am finally going to get myself back in the gym tomorrow evening, I have been putting it off for a while but no longer will that happen. I think I need some inspiration so I’d like you to give me a pep talk - if you don’t mind? My initial enthusiasm usually wanes after a couple of weeks and when I miss a night I tend to miss another night, etc. etc. I’m an all or nothing type guy but my it’s trying to maintain my all for a concerted period of time that has been my undoing.
This time I want to be more determined and resolute in my approach. I know Valentines Day is some day next week and I will be spending it alone, I don’t want to spend it alone next year so I want to feel more confident and better about myself by toning and defining my already athletic physique.
