Fitness XL- Your training routine

Hi pal, hope you didn’t go too crazy last night. I am finally going to get myself back in the gym tomorrow evening, I have been putting it off for a while but no longer will that happen. I think I need some inspiration so I’d like you to give me a pep talk - if you don’t mind? My initial enthusiasm usually wanes after a couple of weeks and when I miss a night I tend to miss another night, etc. etc. I’m an all or nothing type guy but my it’s trying to maintain my all for a concerted period of time that has been my undoing.

This time I want to be more determined and resolute in my approach. I know Valentines Day is some day next week and I will be spending it alone, I don’t want to spend it alone next year so I want to feel more confident and better about myself by toning and defining my already athletic physique.[/quote]

You’ve taken the first step, pal, and that’s always the hardest. You need to take it one day at a time but It’s important that you rest sbd not burn your self our. Start with 3 sessions a week and work it up if it suits.

It’s all about goals tho… what are yours? Loose weight? Gain muscle? Strength? Either way, set targets, maybe monthly ones, and imagine each target a battle against those people that ever doubted you and each time you reach that goal a victory. We are all here for you, mate, but you have to have the will and stomach to fight the fight.

I have a high metabolism and my weight doesn’t usually fluctuate more than a stone over a prolonged period of time. I have a lean and athletic build and I am happy with my body shape so mostly I would like to become a bit more defined and toned. Any particular eating habits you would recommend?

Any woman would be lucky to have you Rudi.

Definition comes from large protein/low carb - plenty of veg and water. Fats are alright but don’t over do it. Sugar is the enemy.

Or man.

Do frozen peas count as vegetables?

Yes. Debates for and against whether it loses a lot of nutrition when frozen but it will do.

Broccoli and celery would be the two I’d advise eating ahead of everything else.

Oh and spinach.

I like broccoli, I just don’t have any in my fridge at the moment and have already done this weeks shopping.

Thanks, pal. I hope I don’t let you down.

I know you won’t.

Always try to have orange and green on you plate.

Orange - pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato etc
Green - broccoli, beans, spinach etc

I have a lot of juices these days, for time saving. Throw kale, oranges, apples, ginger, beet root and celery into the juicer. A juicer is a serious investment.

I’m looking for a good brand of running shoes/trainers, can anyone recommend a trusty brand or model please?

Nike.

Asics

Puma.

@gola

Reebok

LA Gear

New balance.

Dusted off this session I haven’t done in a few years last night:

Rowing machine, 10 mins, medium power, sprint the second last minute.

Clean and press 10 reps x 3

Treadmill, 10 mins: 90 seconds jog then intervals, 1 min as fast as possible, 1 min jog, finishing with 90 secs jog again.

Deadlift with bent over row, 3x10.

Bike, 10 mins, intervals using the resistance, as above.

Backward lunges with forward raise, 3x10.

Cross trainer, 10 mins, as above.

Push-ups, hands using a pair ofdumbells as handles and legs balanced on the point of one foot on a bosu ball, pause for 3 at the bottom and too of each push-up, 3x12.
