Making stuff up to suit your argument - a bit laughable really.
What do ye think about when ye are training lads?
Do ye use the power of the mind to drive you on?
I was only out for a bit of a harmless run today but I was struggling as I am well out of shape. Anyway about half way through I played out a scenario in my head…
Junior C county semi final… hot summers day, 2 points up with a few minutes left. I am in my customary corner back position and I have roasted my original marker at this stage. The opposition have sent on some young speedster to save the game. So I am hip to hip beside this young fella, I reflect on the hard yards done so far, it all started with that 5K in Ballybrit on March 10th… I am going to smash this young fella into 1000 little pieces… The ball breaks 20 yards in front of us, I burst out early… wisdom gave me that advantage, by the time I get to the ball his youth has propelled him to my hip again but superior technique means that the ball spins up off my cultec and into my hands… I roar forward, pick out a loose forward and deliver the deftess of passes and he drives it over… I turn and take the plaudits of my team mates.
Suddenly I am down to the last 500ms of my run.
Job done.

I often visualize my 12 round epic title fight, round by round, with Manny Pacquiao where I knock him down for the third and decisive time in the last round, having twice been on the canvas myself. The mutual admiration and respect between both boxers wins me many new fans stateside where I quickly become box office leading to my multi-million dollar showdown with Floyd Mayweather. Floyd insults me gravely in the buildup to the fight (this often changes from insulting my missus/mother/dead dog) and it spurs me on to destroy him inside 4 rounds to the delight of my adoring public. This section of the visualization will often morph into me giving a savage beating to whoever has upset me that week, usually a work colleague. This is best used in the home run of whatever workout I am doing, when I can really feel the burn and it gives me the willpower to break through the pain barrier.
@Thrawneen: “I’ll show that fathead @Bandage, I’ll fucking show them all” while leathering it into a Polish bird.
You visualise Thrawneen throwing it into a polish bird?
Thats exactly the sort of stuff I am on about. However crazy the scenario, it takes your mind off the pain your going through and focuses the mind on a situation where your somehow benefiting from the current pain.
When things get real bad on a session I’ll focus in on a lad who jumped me on the way from the Warwick one night 10 years ago. Came out of nowhere and punched me in the jaw, hopped my head off the kerb and got a hairline fracture of the skull. Needless to say he was never seen again… Anyway, in my head, i’ll somehow find out who this lad was, track him down to his hovel. This scene often features impliments such as claw hammers, bicycle chains and winklepicker shoes.
Anyway the point is, before you know it, you’ve done another 5 minutes on the rowing machine.

Beautiful prose thraw, just beautiful.
It’s strange i dont think i visualise anything to spur me one. Sheer ignorance is generally what does it for me.
I will also be participating in the FUN RUN.
Aiming to break 45, personl best is 47 at present.
Any advice chaps?

Try running more than 2 minutes quicker than your personal best, that should get you sub 45
Run, run, run like the wind.
I dont know, Wind generally goes in bursts of great intensity for five to 10 seconds and takes about 5 off… it’s a strange strategy but we’ll see if it pays off.

Showoff cunt! The stage is now perfectly set for me to trounce you like simon pegg did to the clearly fitter hank azaria
I will have no problem kicking you.
Im gonna smack you on the shins with a bit of rebar at the startline :D:D:D
With me being a stalwart in the lower divisions of Wexford Hurling for the last ten years, i would be quite shocked if you could extract any feeling from my shins.
Lower divisions in wexford me hole. Try playing against the likes of arklow and raths new and drum.
Fair enough, ill set you a challenge as to who raises more funds(no corporate donations). Loser cant go to free jolly afterwards
