It appears Alonso announcing his switch to Aston on 1/8/22 has created some loophole that Piastri can break his Alpine contract. I’m still trying to understand that rumour.
Piastri Contract with Alpine expired July 31st apparently, day before Alonso announcement to join Aston Martin.
