Outstanding defensive effort and the longer it went on the more I felt karma was with them. I mentioned Chelsea against Bayern Munich in 2012 and that’s ultimately what it was. Pepe is undoubtedly an utter cunt but he’s been excellent throughout the knockout stages. The coach Santos must take a huge amount of credit. Did a fine job with Greece too and made both Portugal and Greece incredibly difficult to break down. Might be in line for a big club job if he thinks this is as good as it will get for him with Portugal.
FOTF Raymond Verheijen is no longer a busted flush. In fairness moving the semis back to Tuesday/Wednesday rather than Wednesday/Thursday is something UEFA should look at.
Was Koscielny on a yellow card? He really should have hauled down Eder before the goal. Lloris was slow to get across but the shot going through the defender’s legs was a mitigating factor to an extent. Still think he might have done better although it was a great shot.
I think France will be back with this group of players. Sakho, Varane and Benzema would have made a difference tonight. There’s a core group of young players there though and they’ll get better.
