I’m beginning to wonder about the timing of this. A largely leaked budget containing large “carbon tax” increases on the way tomorrow, the national broadcaster going apeshit for a week over a gentle breeze last week in total contradiction to the actual weather warnings given by met.ie and these pricks running around being allowed disrupt the capital city for a week. The only piece of the jigsaw I’m missing is someone in government with the brains to come up with such a conspiracy to inflict higher taxes on the ordinary Joe Soap in the face of impending doom

FG are moving to head off the green wave. I’m not sure there’s any need from a political perspective. It’s largely so Varadkar can go to places like the UN and tell everyone how great he is in-spite of the fact that he’s done the grand total of fuck all

I really wouldn’t worry about this carbon tax anyway lads, it’s the standard hike in petrol/diesel tax under a new name. They’ll keep hiking it as cars become more fuel efficent/electric to make up for the loss in revenue and pretend it’s for the environment.
I’m fairly sure he’s in line with the general sentiment of the electorate here. They want “something done” but woe betide if that impacts on any aspect of their personal or business life or costs them any money.

That’s the thing, they’re calling it a carbon tax but all money gathered from it goes directly in the the exchequer, despite them saying it will be ringfenced for green initiatives
