In recent times a 4pm throw-in at Clones means getting home about midnight for Derry and Donegal people as the romanticism of Clones collides with the reality of brutal parking and traffic congestion problems. At least the Saturday evening fixture allows for a Sunday lie-in.

On the numerous occasions I’ve attended a full house at Clones of over 30k which is a bigger capacity than now, I’ve never had any problems either getting parking or getting out of the place.

If people want to flaunt their naivety and ignorance about parking and map navigation, that’s their prerogative.

The only appropriate reaction to such people is to laugh at them.

If you’ve ever been to the Slane concert and liked it, you’ll love Clones. The out of the way nature of the place and the effort it takes to get there is part of what makes it great. You wouldn’t want to be going there every week but the “one day in a year” thing also makes it. The traffic jams and the hassle of getting parking. Meself and me oul’ fella used to have a place on the Cavan side we’d always park, a garage. It was about a mile and a half out. We’d walk it in from there.

Cavan supporters take the Cavan road. Many or most Donegal supporters take the Cavan road.

Clones has several roads in and out.

I wasn’t aware that traffic was unique to Clones but I suppose you learn something new every day.
