Further Things That Are Wrong (Part 2)

There are quite a few quotes from that article where you’d find yourself growing less and less sympathetic

Someone with a relative in the IT newsroom I would suspect

Fellas sympathising with @flattythehurdler about his son losing out in the lottery and giving out about this lad at the same time :person_shrugging:

If you appeal a result you would get that info

I’m very sympathetic with his plight but he doesn’t seem like a great kid, but he’s just a kid obviously

And the parents are hard to like as well

It’s the sense of entitlement in the article that grates a bit. I doiubt flatty or his young lad would go on like that.

Suits the wimmin…they’re more conscientious, organised, do their homework etc. Fellas will do eff all for two years and then pull it out of the fire at the last minute. Exams were a truer test of ability, back in the day. Coursework and continual assessment has rewarded a bunch of diligent but mediocre types.

I don’t recall too many of the subjects be 100 percent based on an exam.

Maybe English and maths.

Irish was split into three if I recall correctly.

Stuff like dcg was forty percent a project. Woodwork and that sort of thing was the same.

Geography was 20 percent a project too.

Surely that’s increased in the past few years?

He sounds a bit of a dick in fairness

I’d simply break it down into percentages. Fairer than a lottery. Even just look at maths/physics/applied maths if it’s a numbers based thing like engineering or finance. Not a big or difficult task.

Ya I always found it odd. There used to be a say a need for a b plus in honours maths for x course.

Surely they could weight points better here.

It’s a bit shitty if your losing out in an engineering course because you aren’t blessed at Irish or English.

Flatty didn’t come across as an entitled little cunt though

Probably not but it’s a farce that you can literally get max possible points and not get into a course

I note the IT chose not to name the student, in true TFK sport I’m opening a book on the ethnicity of the student.

Select and wager on the following options:
a) Indian
b) Indian
c) Indian
