Quaid is the best all round ‘keeper in the land and has been for a few years. Murphy does the flashy stuff better but the in terms of the nuts and bolts of ‘keeping - organisation, communication, puck outs - Quaid is ahead of him.
D Morrissey and Gillane changed Limerick’s year when they came on in the Munster final. Again, two laughable omissions.
Still, history is made which copperfastens their status as one of the greatest teams the game has ever known. Delighted in particular for Darragh O’Donovan, an unheralded cog in the machine.
4 in a row for Sean Finn. One more to equal Pat Hartigan’s 5-in-a-row.
Lynch will join the likes of Ring, Mackey, Shefflin and Whelehan when he wins another HOTY.
Delighted for Barry Nash. Start of the season, would have seen him as a potential.achilles heel as positional discipline questionable. Answered that in spades and his running off the fullback line was great to see. Delighted to see him rewarded.
Hegarty ucky to get it. Think reputation and team winning saw him over the line
Four games - 5 points from play v Waterford, 1-1 from play v Tipp, 4 points from play v Cork, 2 from play v Wexford. His performances v Waterford and Cork were as good as individual performances as there was in this years championship.
I think that team is about right. Morrissey and Gillane can consider themselves unlucky but they probably paid the price for not starting every game. Jamie Barron had a couple of outstanding performances but would have been tough to include over either of the Limerick lads in midfield who deserve the spots.
Prunty, Murphy and Kelly all there on merit in fairness. All had some real high class performances and moments. Even when all around him were all at sea Prunty was one of the few to stand up and be counted v Limerick.
Tough on Cork but truthfully it is hard to think of a Cork player who deserved a spot aside from sheer tokenism. I thought they might throw in Horgan or O’Connor into the forwards but it would have been tough on whoever was omitted.
